Taansen (1943), a Ranjit Movietone productions, is rated as one of the major hit movies of Saigal Saab, right up there with Devdas, Yahudi Ki Ladki an Street Singer. True to the primary subject, this film is a musical bonanza of the first order. Directed by Jayant Desai, the film carried music compositions by the great Khemchand Prakash. There are 13 songs in this film, and the lyrics are shared between DN Madhok and Pt. Indra.

This song from “Subhadra” (1946) is extremely rare. This song is sung by Lata Mangeshkar. Pt Indra is the lyricist and music is composed by Vasant Desai.

The song is picturised on Lata herself. Yes, “Subhadra” (1946) is one of the rare movies where Lata acted and sang for herself. We all would have dearly loved to watch a song picturised on Lata herself.

The song itself is wonderful to listen to. I have no idea why this song is this rare. This song should have been among the lst of most well known Lata songs.

Here is this superb song from “Subhadra” (1946) for the listening pleasure of music lovers.

Places like Lahore (before 1947), Calcutta, Poona also had thriving Hindi movies industry there.

“Sheikh Chilli” (1956) was what was then regarded as a B grade movie. But the movie appears quite A grade in its overall quality. Mahipal and Shyama were the lead actors and I absolutely refuse to call Shyama a B grade actress. And Mahipal too has earned quite a repulation as a hero in these movies.

This is a rare song, and a fabulous song. In fact, for long I was thinking of posting this song as one of my century scoring songs ( yes, I am approaching another century), but then I decided that there are far too many great songs lying there and if I keep them in abeyance waiting for them to be posted as century making songs then I may have to wait far too long.
