Today’s song is from a Remake film from the South – Mangala-1950.
The film was produced by the famous Gemini Pictures, Madras. It was directed by its owner S.S.Vasan. It had music by a team of 3 MDs namely, M.D.Parthasarathy (1 song), Balkrishna Kalla (10 songs), E. Shankar Sastry (3 songs) and 1 song jointly composed by kalla and Sastry. It was the style of Vasan to appoint Partasarathy as a Supervisor for the other MDs, so he did only 1 song to justify his being in the team. All songs were written by Pt. Indra. The cast of the film included Ranjan, Bhaumathy, Agha, David, Badri prasad, Surya prabha, B.S.Kalla and many others. Today’s song is the film’s seventh song to be discussed here.

Today’s song is from the film Mangala-1950. It was yet another remake of a Hit Tamil film, from Gemini Pictures, Madras. The fever of king size success provided by the giant success of film Chandralekha-1948 continued to give Vasan similar positive returns. After Chandralekha-1948, he had made one more remake- Nishan-1949 from his Hit Tamil film Apoorva Sagodharargal-1949, in Hindi, taking Bhanumathi and Ranjan as the lead pair.

During my school days it was my hobby (or habit?) to see films on every Saturday and Sunday. Ours was a big joint family and my absence was hardly noticed by anyone. May be my absence was welcome ! I do not know. Anyway, during the holidays more films were seen. Language was no bar. I saw Hindi, English, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil and Kannada films. Out of these Hindi films were kore and other languages films were much less.

VINTAGE SHAMSHAD BEGUM…Song No. 10…Last song of the series.
——————————————————————–
Today’s song is from the film Mangala-1950. It is a duet of Shamshad Begum and T.A.Moti. This is also the last song of this series.
In this series, we have heard,so far, 9 duets of Shamshad Begum, from her early films in the 40s. From the first film of hers in Bombay (Taqdeer) to her first film in Madras(Mangala), we have heard duets with 9 different singers, featuring Motilal, Surendra, K S Raagi, Ram Kamlani, Anil Biswas, G M Durani, Sulochana Kadam, Lata and Chitalkar and today is the 10th singer T.A.Moti. I wanted to include her duets with S D Batish, Geeta Dutt, Mohd.Rafi and Surinder Kaur, but it was not possible to accomodate them in this series.
