Today (6 november) is the 27th death anniversary of Sanjeev Kumar. When most of his contemporary actors were content to get typedcast in certain kinds of roles and would spend their entire career playing the same kinds of role, Sanjeev Kumar would play just about any kind of character that he was offered. While signing up movies, he did not worry about the impact of that role on his star value. To worry about one’s stardom was for lesser actors, not for Sanjeev Kumar , who could play roles that most heroes would summarily reject. Sanjeev Kumar played roles of deaf and dumb (Koshish), pimp (Manoranjan), Old man (in several movies), mad (Khilona) etc. His star value remained undiminished, no matter what kind of roles he played in his movies.

“Shehnaayi” (1964), not to be confused with “Shehnaayi” (1947), was a New Oriental Pictures Production. It was directed by S D Narang. This movie had Biswajeet, Rajshree, Johnny Walker, Veena, Chand Usmani, Nirupa Roy, Asit Sen, Iftekhar, Leela Chitnis, D. K. Sapru, Parveen Choudhary etc in it.
