There have been two movies called “Sagaai” that I am aware of. The 1951 movie by this name had Premnath, Rehana, Yaaqoob, Gope, VijayLaxmi, Heeralal, Cuckoo etc in lead roles, where as the 1966 movie had Vishwajeet, Rajshree, Rehman, Prem Chopra, Asit Sen, Durga Khote etc in lead roles.

When I was a kid growing up in Eastern part of India, Durga Puja used to be the biggest festival of the year there, lasting four days. And every evening, the Durga Puja organisers would organise a cultural programme where the locals were encouraged to participate.

Regular Hindi movie watchers may have certainly watched a few historical/mythological movies involving Kings. In these movies,King and his ministers would assemble in a Raj Darbaar (King’s court) the way today’s Business houses have their General Body Meeting. What is common in all these meetings is that after the meeting, there would be often by an entertainment programme. Today, the location of entertainment may be different from that of the meeting, but that was not the case in historical times. The entertainment programme would take place in the Raj darbaar itself.
