Here is one more offering from the film ‘Tilasmi Duniya’ (1946). Recordings from this movie have been obscure and missing from decades. In this era of online publications, the only reason a particular item is not available online, could be that the item is of absolutely no interest, or that it is completely obscure or even lost. That seems to be the situation with these records also. It is just providential that I found these records in the collection of a good friend of mine; and he thankfully agreed to share the recording.

‘Tilasmi Duniya’ is a film from 1946, for which much information is not available so far from known sources. The movie was produced under the banner of Jupiter Art Pictures, Bombay and directed by AM Khan. The listed star cast for this movie is S Kulkarni, Sarla Devi, Sita Devi, Shiraaz, Rampyaari, Agha Peerjaan, Rafiq, Madhukar Gupte, Narmada Shankar, Mehndi Raja, Ansari. I have mentioned that finding Sajjad Hussain compositions is always a cause for great celebration. With as many as 56 Sajjad Hussain compositions already discussed in the blog, there many not be many more Sajjad Hussain compositions that are left to be discussed.

As rare songs go, this song is rarest of the rare, as they say in legal parlance. 🙂 So rare in fact that very little information is available on this song. What I know for sure is that this song is from “Tilasmi Duniya” (1946). Another information that is exciting for music lovers is that Sajjad Hussain is the music director !

The movie 1857 (1946) was obviously based on the year 1857 which saw an uprising in India that was described by Indians as a war of independence against their British rulers whereas the British rulers described it as a sepoy mutiny.
