Songs Repeated in Hindi Films – 20
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
It is like cherry picking a hit parade – the repeat songs are almost always the popular hit songs that have made a serious mark on the collective memory of the audiences and lovers of Hindi films and film songs. And this song is no exception. Rather this song has been so popular – with its catchy lyrics and a very hummable melody – that one hears this song being used in many different avatars outside of the film frame – remixes, revival melodies, even background music for recorded dance performances. One can find such samples online on YT.

Presenting the next episode in this series. The film is a standard family drama from the still sedate 1960s, and the fever of disco was still hidden in far horizons. The film is ‘Bhai Behen’ from 1969. The lead pair of Nutan and Sunil Dutt, with a better part of two decades of careers behind them, still look handsome and comely.

Missing Films of 1960s – 45
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
As I scanned the filmography of Nayyar Sb, presented by Atul ji in his late evening post yesterday, my eyes stopped with a jerk on seeing a ‘0’ in the decade of 1960s. Quick shift to the left and I find that the film is ‘The Killers’ from 1969. And the mind said ‘wow’ again – this film, and that too with Nayyar Sb’s music – how can that be an outsider still. Time to set the record right. So the immediate decision was to debut this film – immediately. 🙂

I have in one of my earlier posts mentioned this that music lovers like me always have songs playing in their mind. Or some incidents/memories will always bring some song to mind (that is what I think). For me many things / situations time to time bring me to some song, or it will remind me of some song that I would have listened earlier may be years before or a song which is lying dormant in my memory.

Aah, the Yippeee sound for today. The film is from 1962 – ‘Apna Banaa Ke Dekho’. And the song – and elusive and obscure entity that I had not heard before myself. As I waded through the possible candidates, searching for the song that would complete the itinerary for the particular film, my fingers paused as this 1962 film. I was under the impression that this film would already be Yippeee’d, given the familiarity level and the comparative availability of songs. As I checked the numbers, I myself was surprised – that after six songs having been posted for this film, there still was a seventh song waiting to be brought on.

‘न’
“नादान ना बन ए मतवाले”
There are quite a few songs by Rafi Sb, starting with the alphabet ‘न’, and which are still to be posted. As I was in the process to shortlist the song for today’s alphabet, I came across this unfamiliar song from the film ‘Rangeela’ from 1953. The thing that struck me was the title line “Naadaan Na Ban Ae Matwaale”. The first thought that came to my mind – that this is a sad, philosophical type of song, kind of similar to “Moorakh Hai Insaan” (‘Main Aur Mera Bhai’, 1961) and “Mat Bhool Arre Insaan” (‘Mastaana’, 1954). Not really inclined for a poignant song today, I skipped this, and moved ahead in the list. But on second thought; do not know what prompted me to come back to this song, and I decided to listen to it. And I am surprised – this turns out to be actually a fun song, on the topic of eve teasing. And I knew I had my selection for today’s post. 🙂

Songs to Tickle Your Memory – 29
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
Haan ji, bahut dinon baad. . . after a gap of many days. I am reviving and adding one more gem of a song to the series on ’Songs To Tickle Your Memory’. And once again, it is the doing of Arvinder ji. Today morning I get a call from him he informs me that he has truckload full of items he deals in, to be delivered to me. Samajh to yahi aaya that he is trying to wring one more song from me. But yes, the story is same as before. His request has been sitting in my mailbox now for some weeks. And it continues to accumulate interest in terms of more email reminders. 🙂

Fabulous Foot Tappers – 5
– – – – – – – – – – – – – –
Sometimes it so happens that some song is so well ingrained in memory that it appears as if, oh well, everyone must remember this song. And further, it simply cannot be so that this song is not yet on the blog. But then, surprises never cease, right?
This wonderful song is a keen memory from the childhood radio listening days. As I am browsing through my collection of the 1960s, I come across the 1965 film ‘Sindbad, Alibaba, Alladin’. The list of songs rang a few bells I just happened to check the list on the blog. Two songs from this film are absolute foot tappers. One of them is already posted – “Mera Naam Jinny, Soney Ki Ginni”. But this song, is still waiting to be showcased. Well, here it is.
