Today’s song is a song sung by Kishore kumar in his inimitable style, from the film Dilli Ka Thug-1958.
1958 was the year when so many musical films came. One could see the excellence of lyricists and the art of the Music Directors making those songs popular. In those days the active lyricists were Shakeel Badayuni, Sahir Ludhianvi, Shailendra, Majrooh, Hasrat Jaipuri, Bharat Vyas, Rajendra krishna, Prem Dhawan, Kaifi Azmi, Pradeep to name a few.

Every year, hundreds of Hindi feature films are certified by Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Just for a sample check, I found that for the years 1951-1980, on an average, 100-120 Hindi features films had been certified/released. I am sure the number of Hindi films certified/released in the subsequent decades must have increased significantly. There were many Hindi feature films which had been shot but got shelved or remained incomplete or if completed, remained unreleased. I checked on the websites of Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association (IMPPA) and Producers Guild of India (GUILD) for the list of such films. Unfortunately, no such information is available on the website. It is one more example of the poor upkeep of film related statistics.

In 2013, on the occasion of the 100 years of Indian cinema, Dharma Productions and Viacom 18 came out with a film titled ‘Bombay Talkies’ (2013). The film is the collection of four short films – ‘Ajeeb Daastaan Hai Ye’ directed by Karan Johar, ‘Star’ directed by Dipankar Banerjee, ‘Sheila Ki Jawaani’ directed by Zoya Akhtar and ‘Murabba’ directed by Anurag Kashyap. Each short film is of the length of about 30-35 minutes making it a full-length feature film of a little over 2 hours. The film was premiered at the Cannes International Film Festival in May 2013 and has theatrical release in India in June 2013.

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2013-2023) – Song No.52

As the title of the post suggests, in this post we have a ‘blog ten-year challenge’ song to listen to.
The month of ‘March’ ten years back in ‘2013’ clocked a ‘double century’ and added sixteen more song to it, making the total of ‘216’ songs in the month.
That gives us an average of 6.96 songs per day or almost seven songs per day.
