Matlabi hain log yahan par matlabi zamaana

Posted on: August 19, 2008

Kishore Kumar has sung some awesome sad songs, which are very well known. These days,I have been unearthing some forgotten gems of Kishore Kumar. Surprisingly, these forgotten songs are not all that old. These songs were recorded in 1980s. The fact that the movies to which these songs belonged failed miserably, may have been one of the reasons why these songs failed to become as popular as they should have.

Today’s song is from 1986 and it belongs to a Kumar Gaurav movie called “Begaana”. There are many people who remember “Begaana” of 1960s, which had some nice songs under Sapan Jagmohan’s music. But this new “Begaana” has this awesome song by Kishore Kumar which for some inexplicable reason is not all that well known, and is very hard to find.

Here is this song, which I regard as one of the best sad songs sung by Kishore Kumar.

Both parts video

Audio Part I

Audio Part II

Song- Matlabi hain log yahan par (Begaana) (1986) Singer-Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Anjaan, MD-Anu Malik

Lyrics

nadaan……nasamajh…….pagal dewaana
subko apna maana toone magar ye na jaana…

maltabi hain log yahan per matlabi zamaana
maltabi hain log yahan per matlabi zamaana
socha saaaya saath dega nikla wo begaana
begaana…….begaana….
apno mein main begaana begaana

maltabi hain log yaha per matlabi zamaana
socha saaaya saath dega nikla wo begaana
begaana…….begaana

apno mein main begaana begaana

hmm hmm

khushiyan chura ke guzre wo din
kaante chubha ke bichde wo din
aankhon se aansoo behne lage
behte hi aansoo kahne lage
ye kya hua ye kyun hua
kaise hua maine na jaana

maltabi hain log yahan per matlabi zamaana
socha saaaya saath dega nikla wo begaana
begaana…….begaana….
apno mein main begaana begaana

zindaa hai lashein murda zameen hai
jeene ke kaabil duniya nahin hai
duniya ko thokar kyun na laga doon
khud apni hasti kyun naa mita doon
jee ke yahan jee bhar gaya
dil ap to marne ka dhoonde bahaana

maltabi hain log yaha per matlabi zamaana
socha saaaya saath dega nikla wo begaana
begana…….begana….apno mein main begaana

maltabi hain log yaha per matlabi zamaana
socha saaaya saath dega nikla wo begaana
begana…….begana….apno mein main begaana begaana

Translation

simpleton, gullible, crazy fellow
You regarded everyone as yours, but
you were sadly mistaken

Here people are selfish and so is the world
Even my shadow turned out to be a stranger

I have become a stranger among my own people

Corpse are alive, grave is dead
This world is no longer fit to live
Saying no to this world may not be a bad idea
I have had enough of living in this world in any case
Any excuse to die would be good enough

Here people are selfish and so is the world
Even my shadow turned out to be a stranger

Sadder version

And here is the sadder version of the same song

Guess what, Atul ?
I have NEVER heard this song or even heard of this song.
This is the first time I am hearing this.
I played the song just now – and like it a lot.

I am really surprised I have never heard it – but then this is from 1986 and that was a period (1986-1989) which I have a sort of blackout about.

Very nice song – thanks for introducing me to a “brand new” song.

This song is new even for me. So I was not wrong is saying that this ong for some reason has been forgotten, despite being from a recent vintage.

This song certainly deserved much better fate. And as I have mentioned while discussing it, this song was very difficult to find, and having found it, finding details about the song was equally difficult.

The song has another slower , sadder( if that is possible)version, but I was not able to find the video of that song.

Audio of this song has an additional stanza not there in the video, but then this is not unusual for video version to differ from audio version in bollywood songs.

one of the best kishore sad songs that sank without praise in line with unfortunate and unwritten norm that a failed film sinks along with songs of whatever intrinsic worth it has.
you cannot expect everyone to be a connoisseur. by the way,
can you locate a song fm paththar ki lakeer ‘nashe mein hun ‘ that literally went unsung that i cd not trace anywhere in web.
