Ik din bik jaayega maati ke mol

on:As a kid in one’s early teens, I was not much into liking a song by its “class”. I was purely a member of the “masses” in 1970s. Still, this song, which now I realise is a “classy” song, was a big favourite of mine. No idea why, perhaps it was the catchy tune that made me fall in love with this song.
Not just me, even my younger brother loved this song, but he disagreed with me about the lyrics. I tried to convince him unsuccessfully that the line was “anhoni path me kaante lakh bichaaye”, where as he was firm in his conviction that it was not “path mein kaante” but ” patle kaante”.
With the benefit of hindsight and as a result of growing maturity with time (hopefully), it appears to me now that Majrooh Sultanpuri had written a philosophical song with deep meaning. Well, it means that I was intuitively able to judge class of a song even in my teens.
There was another song in this movie sung by Kishore on a similar but speeded up tune which went “tera dharam hai apna karam nibhana”, but this song failed to catch the ears of the public and failed to become popular.
Of course, the song “Ik din bik jaayega” was exteremely popular in 1976. This song finished second in Binaca geetmala final programme of 1976. That is how popular this song was.
Song- Ik din bik jaayega maati ke mol (Dharam Karam) (1975) Singer-Mukesh, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-R D Burman
Lyrics
ik din bik jaayegaa, maatii ke mol
jag mein rah jaayenge, pyaare tere bol
ik din bik jaayegaa, maatii ke mol
jag mein rah jaayenge, pyaare tere bol
dooje ke honthon ko, dekar apne geet
koi nishaani chhod, phir duniyaa se dol
ik din bik jaayegaa, maatii ke mol
jag mein rah jaayenge, pyaare tere bol
laa laa lalallallaa
laa laa lalallallaa
anhoni path mein kaanten laakh bichhaaye
honi to phir bhi bichhdaa yaar milaaye
anhoni path mein kaanten laakh bichhaaye
honi to phir bhi bichhdaa yaar milaaye
ye birhaa ye dooi, do pal ki majboori
phir koi dilwaalaa kaahe ko ghabaraaye, tarampam,
dhaaraa, to bahtii hai, milke rahtii hai
bahtii dhaaraa ban jaa, phir duniyaa se dol
ik din bik jaayegaa, maatii ke mol
jag mein rah jaayenge, pyaare tere bol
laa laa lalallallaa
laa laa lalallallaa
laa laa lalallallaa
laa laa lalallallaa
laa laa lalallallaa
parde ke peechhe baithi saanwal gori
thaam ke tere mere man ki dori
parde ke peechhe baithi saanwal gori
thaam ke tere mere man ki dori
ye dori naa choote, ye bandhan na toote
bhor hone waali hai ab rainaa hai thodi, tarampam,
sar ko jhukaaye tu, baitha kyaa hai yaar
gori se nainaa jod, phir duniyaa se dol
ik din bik jaayegaa, maatii ke mol
jag mein rah jaayenge, pyaare tere bol
laa laa lalallallaa
laa laa lalallallaa
laa laa lalallallaa
laa laa lalallallaa
laa laa lalallallaa

I want that song ” Na ho bas me tere kuch me mana, tera dharam hai apna karam nibhana ” The words of that songs are :
na ho bas mein tere kuchh bhi maana
tera dharam hai apna karam nibhana
tere peechhe matwaale, sab sooche jagwaale
aaya tha is duniya mein koi mastana
tar rum pum pum…har dil ko teri yaad aaye tere baad
itna to karta jaa, phir duniya se dol.

Lyrics given in your comments are sung by both Mukesh and Kishore Kumar separately.
I found two more versions :

So in all, there are four versions of this song.

I know this song is written by Majrooh and composed by R D Burman. But the day I heard this song in the theater on its release and when I just viewed this song, I always got a feeling that this song was penned by Shailendra and composed by Shanker-Jaikishan ! That Raj Kapoor had a major say in composition of musics for all his films could be one of the reasons for consistency in the style of composition of songs in his movies irrespective of Music Directors.

Just as Majrooh was establishing himself as a lyricist and songwriter of repute, his leftist leanings got him into trouble. The government wasn’t amused by his anti-establishment poems and he was jailed in 1949 along with other leftists like Balraj Sahni. Majrooh was asked to apologise, but he refused and was sentenced to two years in prison. While he was in prison, his eldest daughter was born. During this time his family experienced considerable financial difficulties. Raj Kapoor commissioned a song (“Ek din bike jayega maati ke mol”) from Majrooh for which he paid him Rs. 1000.
