Lo aa gayi unki yaad wo nahin aaye

This song is among the many evergreen songs which listeners have listened to for the last four decades and more. I am also among those. But I had no idea which movie this song was from and how it was picturised.
Now I have seen the picturisation. Listening to the song and watching the picturisation, I see that Asha Parekh is lying on the bed, sans any sparkle in her eyes. She is not singing this song, rather this song is being played in the background.
This is obviously a sad song, and in fact it appears that Asha Parekh is critically ill and is in her deathbed, waiting for her beloved to be with her when the end comes.
A very sad and poignant situation really, and one that is quite a real life situation, and it has got to move the audience.
This is timeless music composed by Ravi and this poignant lyrics were created by Shakeel Badayuni. Along with Lata, the three created a masterpiece that continues to move its listeners even today.

Song- Lo aa gayi unki yaad wo nahin aaye ( Do Badan ) (1966) Singer-Lata, Lyrics- Shakeel Badayuni, MD- Ravi
Lyrics
lo aa gayi unki yaad, wo nahin aaye
dil unko dhoondha ta hai gham ka singaar kar ke
aankhen bhi thak gayi hai ab intezaar kar ke
aankhen bhi thak gayi hai ab intezaar kar ke
ik saans rah gayi hai, wo bhi na too jaaye
lo aa gayi unki yaad wo nahin aaye…
roti hain aaj ham par, tanhaayiaan hamaari
roti hain aaj ham par, tanhaayiaan hamaari
wo bhi na paaye shaayad, parchhaayiaan hamaari
badhte hi jaa rahe hain, maayuusiyon ke saaye
lo aa gayi unki yaad wo nahin aaye…
lau thartharaa rahi hai, ab shamm-e-zindagi ki
ujdi huyi muhabbat, mehmaan hai do ghadi ki
ujdi huyi muhabbat, mehmaan hai do ghadi ki
mar kar hi ab milenge, jee kar to mil na paaye
lo aa gayi unki yaad wo nahin aaye
lo aa gayi unki yaad wo nahin aaye…

Beautiful song.
This movie is full of classics, one after the other.
Starting off with Asha, then 3 Rafi classics in between and ending with this Lata classic.
The story also is a good one – definitely worth watching at least once. If nothing else, you can absorb the songs one after the other.
