Aankhon se jo utri hai dil mein

Posted on: November 21, 2008

O P Nayyar had taken the Bollywood music world by storm in 1950s.He dominated the Bollywood music scene in the late 1950s the way R D Burman would later dominate in 1970s. If Kishore Kumar was the singer who helped the domination of R D Burman in 1970s, then it was Asha Bhonsle who played a similar role in O P Nayyar’s dominance.

In 1960s, O P Nayyar was no longer that dominant, but his music continued to be popular in that decade too. His music in “Phir wohi dil laaya hoon” is a case in point. This movie was full of very popular songs, and this song “Aankhon se jo utri hai dil mein” was one such song. This song is sung so superbly by Asha Bhonsle. The lyrics by Majrooh are such that you like the words even if you may not understand their meaning much. And O P Nayyar comes up with his characteristic music.

No wonder this song is one of the evergreen songs from that era.

Song- Ankhon se jo utri hai (Phir wohi dil laaya hoon) (1963) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD- O P Nayyar

Lyrics

aankhon se jo utri hai dil mein
aankhon se jo utri hai dil mein
tasweer hai ek anjaane ki
khud dhoondh rahi hai shamaa jise
kyaa baat hai us parwaane ki
aankhon se jo utri hai dil mein …

wo uske labon par shokh hansi
wo uske labon par shokh hansi
rangeen sharaarat aankhon mein
saanson mein mohabbat ki khushboo
vo pyaar ki dhadkan baaton mein
duniyaa meri … badal gayi
banke ghataa nikal gayi
taubaa wo nazar mastaane ki
khud dhoondh rahi hai shamaa jise
kyaa baat hai us parwaane ki
aankhon se jo utri hai dil mein …

andaaz wo uske aane kaa
andaaz wo uske aane kaa
chupke se bahaar aaye jaise
kahne ko ghadi bhar saath rahaa
par umar guzaar aaye jaise
unke binaa … rahoongi nahin
kismat se ab jo kahin mil jaaye khabar deewaane ki
khud dhoondh rahi hai shamaa jise
kyaa baat hai us parwaane ki
aankhon se jo utri hai dil mein
tasweer hai ek anjaane ki
khud dhoondh rahi hai shamaa jise
kya baat hai us parwaane ki
aankhon se jo utri hai dil me
hmmm aahaaa haa
hmmm aahaaa haa
hmmm aahaaa haa..

Beautiful song.
When I saw this movie in the late 70s, I fell in love with every single song of the movie. Even a song like “kibla mohtarma” was fun.

Hi,

Thanks for posting this amazingly awesome song … hats off to Ashaji’s singing style

such songs cant be heard on the other radio channels…..i request you all who read the blogs or the comments, plz have a habit to listen the old songs coz, new last for few days but old lasts forever and it is……I’m proud to be a listener of the oldies…

Even the picturization of this song is so beautiful. The comic part just makes it even more fun. Asha Parekh looks lovely in pink. This song definitely makes it in Ashaji’s top ten songs for me.
