CAT cat, cat maane billi

on:Kishore Kumar has sung some wonderful comedy songs in his career. One of the first such songs, that won widespread public approval was in “Dilli ka thug”. In this movie, Kishore Kumar sang songs of different moods.
The song that became most popular was the delightful comedy song “C A T cat, cat maane billi”. It was a duet sung by Asha Bhonsle and Kishore Kumar. It was picturised on Nutan and Kishore Kumar. Majrooh wrote this funny lyrics, and Ravi created the music.
This song was so popular with public that this song finished number 2 in Binaca geetmala final of 1958. It was the highest that a Kishore Kumar song had reached in Binaca geetmala finals till then.
The picturisation shows Nutan teaching English vocabulary to Kishore Kumar, and Kishore Kumar, as was his wont, makes the drab lesson interesting. Kishore Kumar those days was making his mark as a comedy actor of note, and it is so delightful to observe that Nutan too plays a lighthearted role and is seen enjoying it.
In fact tragedy queens like Nutan and Meena Kumari, who were known to play weepy roles subsequently, can be seen laughing and enjoying life and playing happy roles when acting with Kishore Kumar. Such was the charm of Kishore Kumar. 😉

A great observation! I can say the same thing even of a not-so-usually-weepy Vyjayanthimala, with Kishore Kumar in “New Delhi”

I’m so glad to have the words to this song. I find myself singing it (often while walking my dog *for some reason*) but I can’t get past CAT Cat Cat Mane Billi 🙂 Yay, now I can!
