Aadmi musaafir hai

on:Late 1970s and early 1980 were the years that saw Reena Roy playing some nice roles. It began from Apnapan and led to movies like “Asha”, “Dhanwan” etc.
Apart from the storyline, music was one of the stronger suits of such movies and a few songs from these movies became memorable. Take this song “admi musaafir hai” from Apnaapan” for instance. It is a philosophical song, and it touched the heart strings of the listeners.Lyrics are so beautiful and meaningful, yet told in simple words, and using journey as the metaphor for life.
The song is sung on a bus, and is picturised on Sudhir Dalvi and Nivedita Saraf (then Nivedita Joshi), both well known Marathi actors. The bus also carries Jeetendra and Sulakshana Pandit.
This song is played at a couple of other occasions in the movie as well, and Reena Roy too figures on those occasions.
It is the lyrics of this song that are primarily responsible for making this song immortal. The voices of Rafi and Lata too have played a major part in the popularity of this song. Rafi, then making a smart recovery from the Kishore Kumar onslaught in early 1970s had begun to sound as great as he ever did.
Laxmikant Pyarelal’s music is ofcourse as great as always.
This song finished second in Binaca geetmala finals of 197

Lyrics
aadmi musaafir hai aataa hai jaataa hai
aate-jaate raste mein yaadein chhod jaataa hai
aadmi musaafir hai aataa hai jaataa hai
aate-jaate raste mein yaadein chhod jaataa hai
aadmi musaafir hai
aadmi musaafir hai
jhonkaa hawaa kaa paani kaa relaa
jhonkaa hawaa kaa paani kaa relaa
mele mein rah jaaye jo akelaa
mele mein rah jaaye jo akelaa
phir wo akelaa hi rah jaataa hai
aadmi musaafir hai aataa hai jaataa hai
aate-jaate raste mein yaaden chhod jaataa hai
kab chhodta hai ye rog jee ko
kab chhodta hai ye rog jee ko
dil bhool jaata hai jab kisi ko
dil bhool jaata hai jab kisi ko
wo bhoolkar bhi yaad aata hai
aadmi musaafir hai
aadmi musaafir hai
aataa hai jaataa hai
aataa hai jaataa hai
aate-jaate raste mein
yaaden chhod jaataa hai
aadmi musaafir hai
aataa hai jaataa hai
aate-jaate raste mein
yaaden chhod jaataa hai
yaaden chhod jaataa hai
yaaden chhod jaataa hai

Indeed, the lyrics of this song are simple yet very meaningful. This was an Anand Bakshi hallmark.
He was known for simple lyrics, not for heavy-duy esoteric stuff. But with his simple lyrics, he managed to string together powerful songs and connect very well with the storyline. Anand Bakshi / LP had a long and successful partnership doing just this.
Btw, I thought in the tags you normally mention the lyricist / MD also, right ? Why not for this song ? An oversight ?
