Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Mera pyaar bhi tu hai ye bahaar bhi tu hai

Posted on: January 6, 2009

Wow, what a song ! I have listened to this song many a times even though I did not have an inkling about which movie this song was from, or even who the singers were. I thought that Mukesh and Lata were the singers. But I find now that the female voice is Suman Kalyanpur. I think Suman Kalyanpur has sung similar number of songs as Mukesh and she had a Mukesh like midas touch too. A large number of her songs have gone on to become very popular, just like how it was with Mukesh.

I now know that “Saathi” is the name of the movie. Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist, but I could not have imagined that Naushad was the music director.

This song was picturised on Rajendra Kumar and Vyjyanti Mala. I am told ( or did I imagine it ?) that it was a good movie. But the movie failed at the box office. Also, the Rajesh Khanna, Kishore Kumar, R D Burman hurricane had already arrived and hit Bollywood, which saw lots and lots of established names blown away. Most names associated with this movie, viz Rajendra Kumar, Vyjyanti Mala, Naushad, etc soon found themselves sidelined because their era was quickly and clinically brought to an end by Rajesh Khanna, Kishore Kumar, R D Burman combination.

All all that happened despite stellar performances from everyone associated in this movie. But then that is how the cookie crumbles.

PS-Now I know that the song has two versions. The first version, where Rajendra Kumar has his eyesight intact, is sung by Mukesh and Lata, whereas the version where Rajendra Kumar has lost his eyesight is sung by Mukesh and Suman Kalyanpur. Both versions are of course picturised on Rajendra Kumar and Vyjyanti Mala. It is just that Vyjyantimala has double role in this movie (named Shanti and Sharda), therefore two different female voices (albeit resembling each other) have been employed in the two songs.

Mukesh-Lata version

meraa pyaar bhi tu hai
ye bahaar bhi tu hai
tu hi nazron mein jaan-e-tamannaa,
tu hi nazaaron mein
meraa pyaar bhi tu hai
ye bahaar bhi tu hai
tu hi nazron mein jaan-e-tamannaa,
tu hi nazaaron mein
nazaaron mein
hmm hmm hmm hmm

tu hi to mera neel gagan hai
pyaar se raushan khaakh uthaaye
aur ghataa ke roop mein tu hai
kaandhe pe mere sar ko jhukaaye
mujhpe laten bikhraaye
meraa pyaar bhi tu hai
ye bahaar bhi tu hai
tu hi nazron mein jaan-e-tamannaa,
tu hi nazaaron mein
nazaaron mein

manzil mere dil ki wahin hai
saayaa jahaan dildaar hai teraa
parbat parbat teri baahen
gulshan gulshan pyaar hai teraa
mahke hai aanchal meraa
meraa pyaar bhi tu hai
ye bahaar bhi tu hai
tu hi nazron mein jaan-e-tamannaa,
tu hi nazaaron mein
nazaaron mein
hmm hmm hmm hmm
hmm hmm hmm hmm

jaagi nazar kaa khwaab hai jaise
dekh milan kaa din ye suhaanaa
aankh to tere jalwon mein gum hai
dekhoon tujhe yaa dekhoon zamaanaa
bekhud hai deewaanaa
meraa pyaar bhi tu hai
ye bahaar bhi tu hai
tu hi nazron mein jaan-e-tamannaa,
tu hi nazaaron mein
nazaaron mein
hmm hmm hmm hmm
hmm hmm hmm hmm
hmm hmm

Another of my farmaishes.
Have always liked this song, though I think the faster version of this is a little more fun. But this version is also very good.

I think I may have told you that it is a good movie. It was OK. Songs were very good. I was also surprised when I heard the first time that it was Naushad’s music. Other Naushad movies of that period were Ram Aur Shyam and Aadmi – both with Dilip Kumar.

Very nice film! Suman Kalyanpur sounds like Lata! A dard Bhara nagma by Mukesh!!

Please update the female singer name in happy version as Suman instead of Lata as both version are in the voice of Mukesh-Suman.
