Guzra hua zamaana aata nahin dobaara

The golden era of Bollywood music saw great songs composed by big name music directors. In addition, some less known music directors also contributed their mite in making that era the golden era.
S Mohinder was very much one of those lesser known music directors whose music was second to none.
Here is an iconic song composed by him. This song “Guzra hua zamaana aata nahin dobaara” is regarded as an iconic song and rightly so. This song was from a forgotten movie called “Shirin Farhad” (1956) and its lyrcs were written by someone called Tanvir Naqvi.
The picturisation is a treat for the eyes, as this song was picturised on Madhubala. So here is this song, which is a treat for eyes as well as ears.

Some words in the lyrics need correction.
First stanza:
‘ wo ‘ waqt jo ki hamne ik saath hai guzaaraa
haafiz khudaa tumhaaraa
Second stanza :
‘ tootaa ‘ hai zindagi kaa ab aakhiri sahaaraa
haafiz khudaa tumhaaraa

One of my favorites from the ‘radio’ days. It was a regular on the ‘All India Radio’s Urdu Service’.

An almost forlorn, forgotten gem from Lataji who can sing with such in depth pathos . Nevertheless, the credit should be given to lesser known MD S Mohinder and Tanveer Naqvi for the marvellous composition.

Vetaran composer of this melodious song, one of the many such songs, S. Mohinder, has passed away on 6/9/2020 at the age of 95 years.
May his soul rest in peace.

Very very good song indeed, still could sing it along in full after all these years (and no cheating by looking at the lyrics!)
Madhubala shines.
Shirin Farhad is of course another popular Punjabi “kissa” originating from Persia. Most popular kissa is Heer-Ranjha and Laila-Majnu but others that appear in folk music etc are Sassi- Punnu, Sohni-Mahiwal and Mirza-Sahiban.
There was a lot of (tragic) love in the land of arranged marriages!
