Kiska rasta dekhe ai dil ai saudaayi

Posted on: March 15, 2009

“Joshila” (1973) is one of the lesser known movies starring Dev Anand with the then young heroines Hema Malini and Rakhi. The movie failed at the box office and few people recall what this movie was all about.

But there is one song from this movie that stands out. It is an amazingly powerful sad song sung by him. This song cannot fail to move its listeners every time they listen to it. Sahir’s lyrics demonstrate how good lyrics can influence people. Music is by the then reigning music director of Bollywood viz. R D Burman.

Song-Kiska rasta dekhe ai dil ai saudaayi (Joshilaa) (1973) Singer-Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Sahir Ludhianvi, MD-R D Burman

Lyrics

kiskaa rastaa dekhe, ai dil, ai saudaayi

kiskaa rastaa dekhe, ai dil, ai saudaayi
meelon hai khaamoshi, barson hai tanhaayi
bhooli duniyaa, kabhi ki, tujhe bhi mujhe bhi
phir kyon aankh bhar aayi
o, kiskaa rastaa dekhe ai dil ai saudaayi

koyi bhi saayaa nahin raahon mein
koyi bhi aayegaa na baahon mein
tere liye mere liye koyi nahin rone waalaa ho
jhoothaa bhi naataa nahin chaahon mein
tu hi kyon doobaa rahe aahon mein
koyi kisi sang mare, aisaa nahin hone waalaa
koyi nahin jo yoon hi jahaan mein, baante peer paraayi
ho, kis kaa rastaa dekhe ai dil ai saudaayi …

tujhe kyaa beeti huyi raaton se
mujhe kyaa khoyi huyi baaton se
sej nahin, chita sahi, jo bhi mile sonaa hogaa, ho
gayi jo dori chhoot haathon se, o
lenaa kyaa chhoote huye saathon se
khushi jahaan maangi toone, wahin mujhe ronaa hogaa
na koyi teraa, na koyi meraa, phir kiski yaad aayi
o, kiskaa rastaa dekhe ai dil ai saudaayi
meelon hai khaamoshi barson hai tanhaayi
bhooli duniyaa, kabhi ki, tujhe bhi mujhe bhi
ho hmm hmm
