Gham uthaane ke liye main to jiye jaaunga

In 1960s, there used to be a category of song that could be called “Radio” song. In this, the hero or heroine would sing a song and the heroine/ hero, as the case may be would listen to the song attentively.
There was one such song in “Barsaat ki raat” sung by Bharat Bhooshan and the attentive listener being Madhubala. Here is a “radio” song sung by Jeetendra and the attentive listener is Mala Sinha.
Now, this was a loudspeaker song for me for much of my life. A loudspeaker song is different from “radio” song in the sense that there is no announcement about the song in a loudspeaker song and listeners like me have no idea which movie the song is from. Come to think about it, how is a farmaish sending radio listener from Jhumri Tilaiyya and other such places going to send a farmaish for such a song if one is not aware about the movie that the song is froim.
It is only yesterday that I have realised that this song “gham uthaane ke liye main to jiye jaata hoon” is a song from “Mere Huzoor”. Hasrat Jaipuri wrote the song and Shankar Jaikishan composed the music. Like the title song from this movie (Rukh se zara naqaab hata do), this song too is a timeless classic, no doubt about that.

This movie – a Muslim social – had a very good storyline. Somewhat ahead of its times. Lovely songs too.
The lyrics of this particular song are very good.
