Jaa re beimaan tujhe jaan liyaa

Posted on: March 27, 2009

This is an unknown song (at least for me) from an unknown movie called “Private secretary” (1962) composed by an unknown music director called Dilip Dholakiya.

But the song is quite wonderful to listen to. It is written by Prem Dhawan and sung by Manna Dey. In the movie, this song was picturised on Ashok Kumar.

It has to be one of the most memorable songs sung by Manna Dey.This is a superbly sung semi classical song that deserves to be better known than it is.

Song-Jaa re beimaan tujhe jaan liyaa (Private Secretary) (1962) Singer-Manna Dey, Lyrics-Prem Dhawan, MD-Dilip Dholakiya

Lyrics

aaa aaa
aaa aaa aaa
Jaa re beimaan
tujhe jaan liyaa
jaan liyaa
jaa jaa jaa
Jaa re beimaan
tujhe jaan liyaa
jaan liyaa
jaa jaa jaa
Jaa re beimaan
tujhe jaan liyaa
jaan liyaa
jaan liyaa

tere hi saamne hai
tujhe khabar hi nahin
tere hi saamne hain
tere hi saamne hain
tujhe khabar hi nahin
samajh sake jo hamen
ye wo nazar hi nahin
samajh sake jo hamen
ye wo nazar hi nahin
ab aur kya kahen
kya kahen
kya kahen
ab aur kya kahen
ke tujh pe to asar hi nahin
bade ho dil ke bure
hamne pahchaan liyaa
o jaa
o jaa
o Jaa re beimaan
tujhe jaan liyaa
jaan liyaa
jaa jaa jaa
Jaa re beimaan
tujhe jaan liyaa
jaan liyaa
jaan liyaa

mani dhani tani dhi sa
ma ga re sa ni dha ma pa

ni ta sa ma dha ni sa

hamen fareb na de
ke ye chalega nahin
hamen fareb na de
hamen fareb na de
ke ye chalega nahin
sanam ye jhooth tera
sada falega nahin
sanam ye jhooth tera
sada falega nahin
hawaa ke aage diyaa
aaa aaa
aaa aaa
hawa ke aage diyaa to kabhi jalegaa nahin
sahenge ab na sitam
hamne bhi ye thaan liyaa
jaa jaa
jaa jaa
jaa
Jaa re beimaan
tujhe jaan liyaa
jaan liyaa
jaan liyaa
Jaa re beimaan
tujhe jaan liyaa
jaan liyaa
jaan liyaa

I had forgotten about this song by Manna dey till I saw it today. Yet another beauty from the master! It is a pity that this music director did not get the recognition he deserved, of course, Manna Dey never got any, either. Thanks for the wonderful song, Atul.

A very prompt comment from you , Lalitha almost as soon as I posted this song. You were lucky to have listened to this song in the past. I heard it the first time just a few days ago.

You are right, the music director deserved much more recognition. And Manna Dey too has been such an underestimated singer all these years.

I have this song on my Manna Dey CD, which sits permanently in my car! I have listened to it several times while driving, so I know it practically by heart!

Today is Manna Dey’s (90th) birthday, so I was browsing for blog posts about him, and came across this post.

Thanks for this wonderful song! I never heard it before.

By the way, I don’t really think Manna Dey is underrated. He has huge fan base, and his song repertoire is huge. Being a fan of Manna Dey, I wish he’s sung even more songs — but I feel that way about A R Rahman as well (for instance)!

Indeed, I am not surprised that this song is not better known. There are many gems like this that have been forgotten with time.

And indeed this is a superb song. Alas, not too many people are aware about the existence of this song.

Good example of raag bageshri. I love to listen to some more semi or full classical songs of hindi films. Any one knowing a few sites may kindly advise me.
