Raat akeli hai bujh gaye diye

“Jewel Thief”, like most Dev Anand movies with S D Burman’s music, had some very nice songs in it. I have already posted a few songs from this movie.
Here is a song sung by Asha Bhonsle and picturised on Tanuja. Had it been picturised on Helen, it would be regarded as a cabaret song, but since it is picturised on Tanuja, and “good” girls in Bollywood did not do “cabaret”, so it would qualify to be called a sensuous song, I believe. In Bollywood code of conduct, good girls were allowed to dance a sensuous song, I am informed. 😉
This song was written by Majrooh Sultanpuri and picturised on a very young looking Tanuja and (ahem) young at heart Dev saab.

Song-Raat akeli hai bujh gaye diye (Jewel Thief) (1967) Singer- Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-S D Burman
Lyrics
raat akeli hai, bujh gaye diye
aake mere paas, kaanon mein mere
jo bhi chaahe kahiye, jo bhi chaahe kahiye,
raat akeli hai, bujh gaye diye
aake mere paas, kaanon mein mere
jo bhi chaahe kahiye, jo bhi chaahe kahiye
raat akelI hai
tum aaj mere liye ruk jaao, rut bhi hai fursat bhi hai
tumhen naa ho naa sahi, mujhe tumse muhabbat hai
tum aaj mere liye ruk jaao, rut bhi hai fursat bhi hai
tumhen na ho na sahi, mujhe tumse muhabbat hai
muhabbat ki ijaazat hai, to chup kyun rahiye
jo bhi chaahe kahiye,
raat akeli hai, bujh gaye diye
aake mere paas, kaanon mein mere
jo bhi chaahe kahiye, jo bhi chaahe kahiye
sawaal bani huyi dabi dabi uljhan seenon mein
jawaab denaa thaa, to doobe ho paseenon mein
sawaal bani huyi dabi dabi uljhan seenon mein
jawaab denaa thaa, to doobe ho paseenon mein
thaani hai do haseenon mein, to chup kyun rahiye
jo bhi chaahe kahiye,
raat akeli hai, bujh gaye diye
aake mere paas, kaanon mein mere
jo bhi chaahe kahiye, jo bhi chaahe kahiye

Atul, I tried clicking on the other song in this movie, “Ye Dil Na Hota Bechara” and it shows a 404 page not found error.
