I am seriously considering opening a new category of songs called “Helen” songs. And this category will certainly have many entries, considering that a cabaret by Helen was a must in most mainstream Bollywood movies for much of 1960s and 1970s.
Here is a Helen song from “Shikaar” (1968). This song was written by Hasrat Jaipuri and its music was composed by Shankar Jaikishan. Asha Bhonsle sang this song.
This song is a villain’s den kind of a song. In this song, one can also see Bela Bose, another dancer of repute those days. This song in fact appears an important dance in the movie as Helen is apparenly required not only to dance, but to pass on saome secret message to her accomplices in this song. And Helen was not a one dance wonder in this movie. She had a long role in this movie. In fact, she was nominated for Filmfare supporting actress award for that year. That way, it is nice to see her in a longish role in a Bollywood movie.
This movie had quite a few nice songs, and this song is very much among the more popular songs of this movie.

You should. I am already in the works of starting one in my blog. 🙂
it is nice to see her in a longish role in a Bollywood movie.
I think she started her career as an heroine. I remember seeing a song in the movie Cha Cha Cha where she had a lead-role. Wonder why she moved on to Cabaret and Dance-Numbers only.
