Saari saari raat teri yaad sataaye

I thought I had this song in my blog. But when I checked up, I realised that I had yet to post this song.
I have listened to this song a few times in the past, without being much aware of its details. Yesterday I came to know the details. The song is from the movie “Aji Bas Shukriya” (1958). It had Suresh and Geeta Bali in lead roles.
This song is written by Farooque Qaiser and it is composed by Roshan. Lata has sung this song so wonderfully well.
The song is picturised as a “recording” song on Geeta Bali. She is shown recording this song ( or may be singing live for Radio). Watching this picturisation gives us some idea of how it must be like for a singer like Lata to record songs. And she has recorded thousands of songs under similar set up, and many of them have gone on to become evergreen classics. Watching this picturisation, one can get a glimpse of how it is like for a professional singer. Giving a flawless performance under the glare of so many people and still giving outstanding performance must be a great achevement indeed.
And there is no doubt that this song is very much a timeless classic.

Lyrics
saari saari raat teri yaad sataaye
saari saari raat teri yaad sataaye
preet jagaaye hamen neend naa aaye re
neend naa aaye
saari saari raat teri yaad sataaye
ik to balam teri yaad jalaaye
dooje chandaa aag lagaaye
ik to balam teri yaad jalaaye
dooje chandaa aag lagaaye
aag lagaaye teri preet jagaaye re
neend naa aaye
saari saari raat teri yaad sataaye
teri lagan bani rog saanwariyaa
kaise beete baali umariyaa
baali umar mori badaa tadpaaye re
baali umar mori badaa tadpaaye re
neend naa aaye
saari saari raat teri yaad sataaye
preet lagaa ke huye tum to paraaye
pyaas jiyaa ki kaun bujhaaye
preet lagaa ke huye tum to paraaye
pyaas jiyaa ki kaun bujhaaye
kaun bujhaaye koyi ye samjhaaye re
neend naa aaye
saari saari raat teri yaad sataaye
