Bechain dil khoyi si nazar

“Yahudi”(1958) was a mythological movie of foreign origin. The movie is of the Roman era of Marcus and Brutus. But I do not think there may have been too much of an authenticity in the portrayal of characters in this movie, even though this movie was made by the respected Bimal Ray.
But we are not bothered much with authenticity while watching Bollywood movies. This song from “Yahudi” is sung by Lata and Geeta Dutt. I have no idea about the two dancers on whom this song is picturised. Though the movie takes place in ancient Rome, the dance looks like an Arabian nights dance to me. But then most movie watchers cannot distinguish between middle age Persia and Juleus Ceasar era Rome, can they ?

Cuckoo one of the top most dancers of yester years, when a fil would not be complete without her dance. Later on the same was said for Helen also.
No other duo dancres have such fantastic co-ordination, I have seen this songs many times and closely watch their movements and cannot find a mistake.
There is directional mistake of Bimal Roy which is very rare that few sequences, the same dancer sings in Lataji as well as Geetji’s voice.

The two dancers are none other than the famous Helen and Cuckoo, whom Helen considered a mentor! Perhaps the only one with both of them.
