Sheeshi bhari ghulaab ki patthar pe tod doon

Posted on: September 2, 2009

I have found that Kapoor Khandaan heroes tended to romance their would be wives on screen before tying the knot in real life. This was the case with Shammi Kapoor who acted opposite Geeta Bali in a few movies. Rishi Kapoor in fact had a roaring romance with Neetu Singh for nearly a decade in reel as well as real life before they were finally married.

But when it comes to Randhir Kapoor, I found him acting opposite every heroine in the town except Babita, his would be wife. and ironically,Babita appeared in romantic roles opposite Shammi Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor ( brothers of her would be father in law) in several movies- chhee chhee, as puritanical Indians would remark).

Here finally, Randhir Kapoor is seen making amends. So what if he does so in an eminently forgettable and forgotten movie called “Jeet” (1972).

Here in this song, Babita is seen professing her undying love for Randheer Kapoor who is trying to shake her off.

This song is sung by Lata. The song is written by Anand Bakshi and its music is composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal.

Song-Sheeshi bhari ghulab ki patthar pe tod doon (Jeet) (1972) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD-Laxmikant Pyarelal

Lyrics

kyaa kahaa tujhe main bhool jaaun

karke bahaanaa Raam kaa
karke bahaanaa Raam kaa teraa main naam loon
karke bahaanaa Raam kaa teraa main naam loon
sheeshi bhari ghulaab ki patthar pe tod doon

prem hai ye koyi khel nahin
ye koyi do dinon kaa sainyaa mel nahin
prem hai ye koyi khel nahin
ye koyi do dinon kaa sainyaa mel nahin

kaantaa chubhaa ho paanv mein doon main nikaal wo
kaise nikaaloon dil se main tere khayaal ko
kaise nikaaloon dil se main tere khayaal ko

bhoolaa tu karke waade peepal ki chhaanv mein
bhoolaa tu karke waade peepal ki chhaanv mein
tujhsaa nahin hai koyi
tujhsaa nahin hai koyi harjaayi gaanv mein
tujhsaa nahin hai koyi harjaayi gaanv mein
sheeshi bhari ghulaab ki patthar pe tod doon

chhod de meraa haath channaa
naa majaak kare mere saath channaa
chhod de meraa haath channaa
naa majaak kare mere saath channaa
main kaliyaan bhari bahaar ki baagon se noch loon
phir haan karoongi baalmaa pahle main soch loon
phir haan karoongi baalmaa pahle main soch loon

dekhaa hansaa diyaa tujhe o taange waale yaar
dekhaa hansaa diyaa tujhe o taange waale yaar

Nice song, I remember hearing this often when I was younger but never knew what film it was from or who it was picturized on. Thanks for sharing this one.

IIRC, Babita also acted opposite Randhir Kapoor in his debut as both an actor and director, Kal Aaj Aur Kal. I don’t believe there were any others though besides this and Jeet, unlike the more prolific Shammi-Geeta or Rishi-Neetu.
