These days I am posting the songs of “Aab e Hayaat” (1955) in this blog. This movie had Premnath, Shashikala and Pran in lead roles.
Here is a song from this movie that was sung by Geeta Dutt. I am not very clear when it comes to identifying female actors of the past, but I presume that this song is picturised on Shashikala. How did I arrive at this conclusion ? The lady is singing a song for her beloved, and the beloved turns out to be Premnath. Now, Premnath= hero of the movie, so the lady singing for her beloved= heroine of the movie. Heroine of the movie= Shashikala, therefore it is proved that the lady singing the song is Shashikala. QED !
PS-It turns out that the lady in the picturisation is neither Shashikala nor Ameeta, but Smriti Biswas. I thank experts like Raja and Greta (Memsaab) who identified her for me.
Hasrat Jaipuri is the lyricist and Sardar Malik is the music director.

So my maths was poor ! Well, at least now I know that she is Ameeta. Thanks for helping me out in my maths. 🙂

She does not look like Ameeta to me. 🙂
Not that she looks like Shashikala either but looks even less like Ameeta.
If I had to pick between the two, I would go with Shashikala. 🙂
To add to the confusion, the movie also had Helen so…

So much confusion about the identity of the lady. It cannot be Helen, because Asha Bhonsle sang for her. It cannot be Premnath, because Hemant Kumar sang for him. So it has to be Ameeta since Geeta Dutt sang another song in this movie which was picturised on Ameeta. It certainly is becoming complicated. 😉

Most definitely NOT Shashikala—she has a very distinctive face. Not Helen either for sure! I think she looks just like Ameeta too.
Maybe Raja needs glasses? 😉 (I already have them)…

I knew you would stand strongly behind this not being Shashikala.
Somehow it does not look like Ameeta either.
This person has a flattish face – more Shashikala-like.
Anyway, we need to ask another authority. Maybe if Greta puts this up on her site, it would help. There are lots of knowledgeable movie buffs who visit her site.

That is not Shashikala…I think the heroine was Ameeta, and the woman singing looks like Ameeta so ergo 🙂 I think it is Ameeta!
