“Satte Pe Satta” (1982) was an adaptation of “Seven Brides for seven brothers”. When Bollywood makers draw inspirations from Western movies, they often spoil the original. This movie is one of the few that manages to remain an enjoyable movie. I have not watched the original, so I cannot say which movie was more fun, but I know for sure that “Satte Pe Satta” had some nice songs that the original movie did not have, 😉
Here is a lovely song from “Satte Pe Satta”. It is a party song that is picturised on Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini and others. Amitabh Bachchan is wooing Hema Malini and he sings this song at the wedding reception of Vijayendra and Sarika. Hema Malini, like a typical Bollywood lady worth her salt takes exceptions to his advances for much of the song, only to concur at the end.
The song is sung wonderfully well by Kishore Kumar. There is a small potion of humming in a female voice in this sing too, and this voice belongs to Annette Pinto.
Gulshan Baawra is the lyricist and R D Burman composed the music. This song is a wonder composition from an era when melody was losing out to the cacophony of disco.

The original hollywood film Seven brides for seven brothers had great songs and dances.
