Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Mere dilbar mujhpar khafaa naa ho

Posted on: July 16, 2010

Here is a qawwali from “Dharmputra” (1961) which I am told is a very popular qawwali. Farmaish for this song was given by Sid and Raja very promptly provided me with the lyrics of this song, telling me that this song is one of his all time favourites. Thanks to the lyrics provided by him, the time needed for getting the lyrics right (which is the major job for me while posting any song) was saved, and here is this qawwali.

Unlike Sid and Raja, I was not aware of this qawwaali, and I loved listening to this song for the first time. This song is sung by Rafi. I am unable to identify the actor lip syncing the song on the screen and I request my knowledgeable readers to identify them. raja has identified the lady dancing on this qawwali though- she is Shashikala.

The lyrics for this qawwali is written by Sahir Ludhianvi and what superb lyrics they are ! But then one expects such high quality from him all the time and gets it too without fail.

N Datta was the music director of this movie but as far as this song is concerned, it was a composition of Jaani Babu Qawwaal, who was a major qawwaal those days.

Song-Mere dilbar mujh par khafaa na ho (Dharmputra) (1961) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Sahir Ludhianvi, MD-Jaani Bahu Qawwal

Lyrics

Mere dilbar mujh par khafa na ho
ho mere dilbar mujh par khafa na ho
kahin teri bhi kuchh khata na ho
jo ye dil deewaana
jo ye dil deewaana machal gayaa
jo ye dil deewaana machal gayaa
jo ye dil deewaana machal gayaa
mere dilbar mujh par khafa na ho
mere dilbar mujh par khafa na ho
kahin teri bhi kuchh khata na ho
jo ye dil deewaana
jo ye dil deewaana machal gayaa
jo ye dil deewaana machal gayaa
jo kisi ke rokey ruka na ho
kisi sang-e-dar pe jhuka na ho
tere dar pe kaise phisal gayaa
jo ye dil deewana machal gayaa
jo ye dil deewana machal gayaa

ye nazar mein masti ghuli ghuli
ye sunehri rangat dhuli dhuli
ye nazar mein masti ghuli ghuli
ye sunehri rangat dhuli dhuli
ye ghaneri zulfen khuli khuli
ye ghaneri zulfen khuli khuli
jo zamaane bhar ka guroor hai
jo nasha hai jo bhi suroor hai
wo tere shabaab mein dhal gayaa
jo ye dil deewaana machal gayaa
jo ye dil deewaana machal gayaa
mere dilbar mujh par khafa na ho
kahin teri bhi kuchh khata na ho
jo ye dil deewaana
jo ye dil deewaana machal gayaa
jo ye dil deewaana machal gayaa

kahoon kyun ke duniya raqeeb hai
mera apna dil hi ajeeb hai
kahoon kyun ke duniya raqeeb hai
mera apna dil hi ajeeb hai

teri ruswaayi bach rahegi kya
jo deewaana ghar se nikal gayaa
jo ye dil deewaana machal gayaa
jo ye dil deewaana machal gayaa
o mere dilbar mujh par khafa na ho
kahin teri bhi kuchh khata na ho
jo ye dil deewaana
jo ye dil deewaana machal gayaa
jo ye dil deewaana machal gayaa
jo kisi ke roke ruka na ho
kisi sang-e-dar pe jhuka na ho
tere dar pe kaise phisal gayaa
jo ye dil deewana machal gayaa
jo ye dil deewana machal gayaa

heard it for the first time and loved it.
thankyou.
thanks to Sid & Raja also for this delightful Farmaish.
I knew Sahir writting against the system but this was too good.
Infact as the song proceeded i had to go back to confirm wheather i have read it right.is it really Sahir Ludhianvi?
Also this song would have lost most of its charm had it not been sung by Rafi.

hey atul
i think the lead singer is the same one on whom the Roshan hit was picturised; the qawwali from “Barsaat Ki Raat” “Na toh caravan ki talaash hai”

This is on my list of top ten qawwalis, I just LOVE IT. So is the singer it’s picturized on Jaani Babu Qawwal himself? He is quite wonderful.

I think actor is “Balam”. And, yes it is the same guy who was in “Na tau carvaan ki talaash hai, na tau … ” from “Barsaat Ki Raat”.

&, thanks for posting thing Quawaali. One of my fav.

While browsing film qawwalis I came across this gem.
No words to define the beauty of this qawwali.

One must agree that the beauties of this qawwali are ‘Lyrics of Sahir’, ‘Voice of Rafi’ and ‘the expressions of actor Balam’.

I am a fan of this qawaali since long for its wonderful words,Actor Balam’s meaningful expressions and most important-Shashikala’s sober gestures, which could have been otherwise. Thanks for this upload.

For the past few weeks,I am hearing this song repeatedly. What a piece of wonder. I think the same actor Balam on whom this song was picturised was in Raagini also as a character actor who tries to marry Zabeen but Kishore Kumar ultimately gets her..
