Ae dile aawaaraa chal

Posted on: July 29, 2010

Here is a song from “Dr Vidya” (1962). Only the audio of this song is available and so I am unable to find out about its picturisation.

This song is sung by Mukesh. Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist and S D Burman composed the music.

Since video of this song is not available, I have let my imagination run wild to imagine the picturisation of this song. The movie has Dev Anand as the hero, so I imagine that Dev Saab is lip syncing this song. The song has a nice wild west kind of a whistle in the beginning. So I imagine that Dev saab is seated on a stallion, Clint Eastwood style and galloping on a horse, singing this song. 😀

Who knows, in reality this could be a car song or a jeep song. In any case, this song is a wonderful song to listen to, with or wthout the picturisation. Mukesh sunds as sweet as ever in this song, and this song is one that will cheer you up, no matter whether you are riding a horse or more likely driving a car, or you are merely pushing keys on your keyboard.

PS-Now I have been informed that the actor is not Dev Saab but Manoj Kumar and that he sings this song while riding a bicycle. What a climbdown from my high horse !

Song-Ae dile aawaaraa chal (Dr Vidya) (1962) Singer-Mukesh, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri,MD-S D Burman

Lyrics

o o o o
ae dil-e-aawaaraa chal
ae dil-e-aawaaraa chal
phir wahin dobaaraa chal
yaar ne deedaar kaa waadaa kiyaa hai
o o o
ae dil-e-aawaaraa chal
phir wahin dobaaraa chal
yaar ne deedaar kaa waadaa kiyaa hai
o o o
ae dil-e-aawaaraa chal

wo unki betaabi
wo unkaa chalnaa chham se
aanchal thaamaa to hanske kahaa
phir milne ko hamse
unse
hamse
sun ae dil
pyaar kaa ikraar aankhon mein huaa hai
o o o
ae dil-e-aawaaraa chal

khatti ho yaa meethi
ab un aankhon se peenaa
jeete hain chaahat waale
binaa chaahat ke kyaa jeenaa
chalte
phirte
sun ae dil
chaah mein ab aah bharne kaa mazaa hai
o o o
ae dil-e-aawaaraa chal

chamkaa hai ik mukhdaa
kuchh zulphen hain lahraayin
din phir gaye apne din ke
gayi raaton ki tanhaayi
chamkaa hai ik mukhdaa
kuchh zulphen hain lahraayin
din phir gaye apne din ke
gayi raaton ki tanhaayi
jahaan wo wahaan ham
sun ae dil
chain se bechain tu kyun ho rahaa hai
o o o
ae dil-e-aawaaraa chal
phir wahin dubaaraa chal
yaar ne deedaar kaa waada kiyaa hai
o o o
ae dil-e-aawaaraa chal

Dear Atul,
The hero is Manoj Kumar and not Devanand and as far as I remember, Manojkumar sings this song while moving on a cycle.
Old memory..

Yes Atul, it is Manoj Kumar on a cycle as far as I too recall. Was shown on Chitrahaar more than three decades back

Dev Anand on a horse? Don’t you think Shammi Kapoor would be better on a horse, or even Shashi Kapoor or Dharam or Jeetu? My mind just cannot picture Dev on a horse, just as it cannot picture Dev doing any kind of dancing!

The song is wonderful, and Mukesh has done full justice to the song. Thanks, Atul!

Dev Anand on a horse?

Majority of the characters he played (boy next door) & his screen image doesn’t go well with macho horse rider (or BULL) 🙂

Horse & Devanand did share screen once in the lyrics (thanks to Rajinder Krishan, Madan Mohan, Lata & Geeta Bali) 😉

Geetbali dancing & requesting Devanad saheb for a horse cart…

“Balama annadi maga de ghoda gadi” song from “Pocketmaar” movie
