I have said in the past that even the lesser known/obscure songs of the golden era movies were wonderful songs, in case we care to dig them up and listen to them again.

“Shaheed” (1965) was a movie based on Bhagat Singh’s life and most songs were patriotic songs. Even other songs of this movie evoke patriotic fervour, such is the feeling that this movie brings about in its listeners.

When it comes to songs of the golden era, I have certain observations. One of these observations is that every movie had several nice songs. Some of the songs went on to become popular but even those songs which failed to become popular are worth listening to. In many cases, they may even be as good as, if not better, than the more popular songs of that movie.

This song from “Kohinoor”(1960) is an ultimate “Chhaayaageet” song which is my way of saying that this romantic song is ideal for listening to at late night. And indeed many listeners may have listened to this song in the late night “Vividh Bharati” programme of this name.

When one thinks on the movie “Modern Girl” (1961), one thinks of the song Ye mausam rangeen samaan. This song is a very popular Mukesh song,and I associate this song with this movie whenever I hear the name of this movie.

When I was a youngster in my teens, I was under the impression that old songs meant boring songs, which were mostly like Ghazal, sad songs etc. But it is only much later that I realised that some wonderful light hearted songs too were created those days.
