“Saahib Bibi aur Ghulaam” (1962) is a movie par excellence.The songs of this movie are just as wonderful.
Here is a song from this movie. It is sung by Geeta Dutt. Shakeel Badayuni is the lyricist and Hemant Kumar is the music director. All three have come up with masterful performances in their fields, and the result is a superbly crafted masterpiece.
Listening (and watching) to this song in isolation is such an unforgettable experience, so one can just imagine how it would be like to ewatch this song as part of the movie. It is all done very well indeed.

What a hauntingly beautiful song, the longing, the pathos come across so well in Geeta Dutt’s voice. Maybe she was also conveying her feelings to her husband, Guru Dutt. But truly a remarkable song.
