Mehfil mein meri kaun ye deewaanaa aa gayaa

Posted on: November 15, 2010

“Albela”(1951) was the biggest hit of Bhagwan’s career. It was the first time he made an A grade movie and reaped rich dividends. It is another matter that he could not capitalise on this success and soon he was back to making B grade movies again, in addition to acting as a comedian.

“Albela” (1951), in addition to being a hit movie was a musical blockbuster as well. Almost all of the songs of this movie went on to become hugely popular. C Ramchandra not only composed the music for this movie, he also sang for Bhagwan, the hero. Lata’s voice was used for Geeta Bali.

But there is one song in the movie where Rafi sang for Bhagwan. Here is this song. This song, which also has the voice of Lata is picturised on Bhagwan and Geeta Bali, who play stage actors in this movie.

Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist.

Here is this lovely song from “Albela” (1951) which I heard for the first time only recently.

Lyrics

Chaman(?) ki god mein jaise gulaab soyaaa hai

mehfil mein mere kaun ye deewaanaa aa gayaa
ye deewaanaa aa gayaa
jab shammaa ne pukaara to parwaanaa aa gayaa,
o parwaanaa aa gayaa
mehfil mein mere kaun ye deewaanaa aa gayaa
ye deewaanaa aa gayaa
jab shammaa ne pukaara to parwaanaa aa gayaa,
o parwaanaa aa gayaa

aanaa hai mere paas to khanjar ko dekh lo
aanaa hai mere paas to khanjar ko dekh lo
khanjar ko dekh lo
khanjar ko dekh lo,
dekh lo
ajee yoon kaho ki aankh ke nashtar ko dekh lo
ajee yoon kaho ki aankh ke nashtar ko dekh lo
dekhaa tumhe to husn pe mar jaanaa aa gayaa,
o mar jaana aa gayaa
mehfil mein meri kaun ye deewaanaa aa gayaa
ye deewaanaa aa gayaa
jab shammaa ne pukaara to parwaanaa aa gayaa,
o parwaanaa aa gayaa

deewaane,
deewane apni maut kaa bhi dar nahin tumhe
ho ho ho ho
aa aaa aa aa
deewane apni maut kaa bhi dar nahin tumhe
deewaane aise hote hain khabar nahin tumhe
deewaane aise hote hain khabar nahin tumhe
ai husn hoshiyaar ki dewaanaa aa gayaa,
ki dewaanaa aa gayaa,
mehfil mein meri kaun ye deewaanaa aa gayaa
ye deewaanaa aa gayaa
jab shammaa ne pukaara to parwaanaa aa gayaa,
o parwaanaa aa gayaa
