Nainaa bhar aaye neer
Posted on: December 12, 2010
I am somewhat familiar with the songs and actors from late 1940s onwards. But the songs and actors from the earlier period appear totally pre historic and therefore unfamilar. Not much information is available about them either.
Here is a song from those unfamiliar times. This song is from “Humaayun”(1945). This movie had names like Askok Kumar, Veena, Chandramohan and Nargis in it.
This song is sung by Shamshad Begam, who is fortunately a known name for me. She has sung this melancholic song nicely. I half expect the songs of that era to be influenced by K L Saigal’s style of singing, but I am pleasantly surprised to note that Shamshad Begam used to sing in her own original style even during those days.
The actress on whom this song is picturised is unfamiliar. Going by the list of actors figuring in this movie, I guess that she has to be Veena. I request my knowledgeable readers to help identigy her.
The song is written by Anjum Pilibhiti. Music is composed by Ghulam Haider.

Song-Naina bhar aaye neer (Humaayun) (1945) Singer-Shamshad Begam, Lyrics-Anjum Pilibhiti, MD-Ghulam Haider
Lyrics
nainaa bhar aaye neer
ho nainaa bhar aaye neer,
mere hatheele raajaa
aajaa aajaa
naa jaa
nainaa bhar aaye neer
ho nainaa bhar aaye neer
dol rahi hai man ki naiyaa
dol rahi hai man ki naiyaa
tujh bin meraa kaun khewaiyaa
dol rahi hai man ki naiyaa
tujh bin meraa kaun khewaiyaa
doob na jaaye
beech bhanwar mein
doob na jaaye
beech bhanwar mein
meri naiyaa paar lagaa jaa
aajaa aajaa
naa jaa
nainaa bhar aaye neer
ho nainaa bhar aaye neer
tan ke andar praan tu hi hai
meraa to bhagwaan tu hi hai
tan ke andar praan tu hi hai
meraa to bhagwaan tu hi hai
tujh par waaroon jeewan apnaa
tujh par waaroon jeewan apnaa
mere man ko
dheer bandhaajaa
aajaa aajaa
naa jaa
nainaa bhar aaye neer
ho nainaa bhar aaye neer

Ghulam Haider was the person who gave Lata her first break. He later migrated to Pakistan after partition but kept on working for Bollywood on and off.He demanded Rs.50000/- in 1948 for his work in Dilip Kumar starred Shaheed and got it.It was a big amount on those days.To compare Naushad got Rs. 8000/- for his super hit songs for Rattan(1944).
Encouraged by Ghulam Haider , Naushad raised started charging a lakh for a film in early fifties follwed by C.Ramchander after the success of Azaad in 1955 and then OP Nayyar took this price zooming to Rs.150000 after his 1957 Naya Daur followed by Shanker Jaikishen who later raised this peak to a staggering Rs.250000.
