I am fond of saying that Bollywood movies have one great “Chitthi” (letter) song every decade, beginning from 1960s. Thus we had Likhe jo khat tujhe(Kanyadaan)(1968) in 1960s, Daakiya daak laaya(Palkon ki chhaon mein)(1977) (Palkon Ki Chhaaon Mein” in 1970s, “Chitthi aayi hai aayi hai” (Naam) in 1980s and Sandese aate hain(Border)(1997) (Border) in 1990s. All these songs are already posted in this blog.

“Samundar” (1957) was a movie where Premnath had played lead role opposite Bina Rai, who later on became his wife. His brother Rajendranath also figured in this movie.

In 1954, the iconic song Kitna badal gaya insaan(Nastik)(1954) was released and that song took the nation by storm. This song in fact must be regarded as a song that has broken all barriers of time and this song has assured immortality for itself as well as its creators (namely Pradeep and C Ramchandra).

I recall listening to this song in my younger days. But as was the case with me for most songs, the only thing I knew about this song was what I heard, and no more. In other words, my knowledge of this song was confined to the fact that the song was sung by Rafi. Yes, I could identify Rafi’s voice even then. But I was not aware that songs had lyricists and music directors too. I used to think that the singer did everything !
