Soyi hai kahaan jaa kar taqdeer muhabbat ki

Posted on: January 25, 2011

From the song, it is often possible to guess the music director. But not always. there have been cases where a song, sounding like O P Nayyar’s song may turn out to be Madan Mohan’s.

Here is a song that sounds like it is composed by Madan Mohan or Roshan, but in reality this song, based on classical music, is composed by O P Nayyar.Like the singer Kishore Kumar, music director O P Nayyar too was classically untrained, but that did not stop him from composing some superb semi classical songs in Hindi movies when opportunity of such songs arose in his movies.

Here is this lovely song sung by Suraiyya. This song is written by Harsh. The movie is Mr Lambu (1956) which was a movie with actors like Suraiyya, Bhagwan, Meenu Mumtaz, N A Ansari, Vijayalaxmi, Kamaljeet,Helen etc in it. Only the audio of this song is available, but it is clear that the song was picturised on Suraiyya herself.

Song-Soyi hai kahaan jaa kar taqdeer muhabbat ki (Mr Lambu) (1956) Singer-Suraiyya,Lyrics-Harsh,MD-O P Nayyar

soyi hai kahaan jaa kar taqdeer mohabbat ki
ab maut hi baaqi hain tadbeer mohabbat ki
soyi hai kahaan jaa kar taqdeer mohabbat ki
ab maut hi baaqi hain tadbeer mohabbat ki
soyi hai kahaan jaa kar

manzil hai wahi apni
mil jaao jahaan hamko
maaloom nahin lekin
manzil kaa nishaan hamko
manzil kaa nishaan hamko
unke ke liye phirti hai zanjeer mohabbat ki
ab maut hi baaqi hain tadbeer mohabbat ki
soyi hai kahaan jaa kar

unko tu tere dukh ki parwaah nahin koi
marne ke siwaa ai dil ab raah nahin koi
ab raah nahin koi
mitati hai to mitne de tasweer mohabbat ki
ab maut hi baaqi hain tadbeer mohabbat ki
soyi hai kahaan jaa kar

The hero of Mr.LAMBOO was SHAIKH MUKHTAR,who was the tallest Hero in the industry then.May be the title of the movie was indicative of that.
Incidently,Shaikh Mukhtar was also the Producer of this film

Beautifully sensitive song. Found it through friend Shekhar Gupta; had not come across it before. Have heard many stories of Suraiyya-Dev forbidden romance. Could not help thinking about that while listening to pathos that come through such a beautiful voice and composition.
