There are occasions when one listens to songs and likes them without being aware of the name of the movie the song belongs to. In fact there are some movies that manage to remain non descript and obscure despite containing some really fine songs in it.
“Suhaagraat” (1968) must be one such movie. I have been listening to its songs for decades nd it is only recently I have come to know that I was listening to the songs of ‘Suhagraat” (1968). The first such song was the iconic song Ganga mayya me jabtak ke paani rahe which is perhaps the definitive song singing the paens of the holy Indian river of Ganga.
Here is another song from this movie that I have liked just as well while remaining even more ignorant about the details of this song. This song, which is a background song sung by Kishore Kumar, shows the suffering of Rajshree, who plays the ideal Bhaartiya Naari in this movie.
Indeewar is the lyricist and Kalyanji Anandji composed the music of this memorable song.
This song came in 1968, viz the same year when Kishore Kumar took the Hindi male playback singing by storm and changed the scenario of Hindi movie music. This song is one of the songs that helped him reach the top.
