Moti jaisa rang ang mein

Posted on: March 26, 2011

“Aansoo aur Muskaan” (1970) is a movie that most people (or at least I) remember for just one reason, viz Kishore Kumar’s fantastic comedy song Guni janon bhakt janon.

Though Kishore Kumar stole the show in this movie with his performance,he was not the lead actor of this movie. Parikshit Sahni and Hema Malini played the lead roles in this movie.

Here is a song from this movie that was picturised on the lead pair. This song is sung by Mukesh. the picturisation shows Hema Malini getting standing under a waterfall and getting drenched. Personally I do not think the lead duo appear as natural or share the same chemistry that the then hot pair of Rajesh Khanna and Mumtaz shared. But then not everyone can be a Rajesh Khanna or a Mumtaz.

I do not think this picturisation helped much as far as Parikshit Sahni’s career was concerned. Hema Malini went on to become the “dreamgirl”, though this movie is hardly mentioned when one discusses the list of her memorable movies.

Indeewar is the lyricist and music is composed by Kalyanji Anandji.

Song-Moti jaisa rang ang mein (Aansoo Aur Muskaan) (1970) Singer-Mukesh, Lyrics- Indeewar, MD-Kalyanji Anandji

Lyrics

moti jaisaa rang ang mein
moti jaisaa rang ang mein
ras kaa saagar lahraaye
tere roop ki aanch lage to
patthar dil bhi pighal jaaye
moti jaisaa rang ang mein

nainon mein hai tere
jaise kirnon kaa baseraa
nainon mein hai tere
jaise kirnon kaa baseraa
nikhraa teraa yauwan
jaise bikhraa ho saweraa
sooraj tere darshan ko
sooraj tere darshan ko
har din aaye-jaaye
moti jaisaa rang ang mein
ras kaa saagar lahraaye
tere roop ki aanch lage to
patthar dil bhi pighal jaaye
moti jaisaa rang ang mein

hogaa wo bhi sundar
jispe hogi teri chhaayaa
hogaa wo bhi sundar
jispe hogi teri chhaayaa
hogaa wo bhi mohit
jisne tujhko hai banaayaa
jeewan kar de roshan
jeewan kar de roshan
tu jo muskuraaye
moti jaisaa rang ang mein
ras kaa saagar lahraaye
tere roop ki aanch lage to
patthar dil bhi pighal jaaye
moti jaisaa rang ang mein

Rabindranath Tagore gave the name ‘Pariksha’ (as his mom near the end of her pregnancy and preparing to take a test) to Parikshit Sahani.
K. Asif wanted Parikshit to play young Dilip in Hulchul (1951), but Nitin Bose got him in Deedar (1951), playing young Dilip Kumar.
Deedar went on to become a hit. It celebrated a jubilee in almost every large city of the country.
Sanjeev Kumar gave him on the screen name Ajay, for his portrayal of a painter in film ‘Anokhi raat'(1968).
He liked the name so much he changed from Parikshit to Ajay.
Hema Malini made her acting debut in Sapno Ka Saudagar (1968), and the film flopped.

Yeah, Tagore gave the name, but it was Parikshat, and not Parikshit…. Parikshit means someone who has already gone thru the test…. Parikshat means someone who’s gonna appear for the test….name is Parikshat Sahni….
