Tirulila tirulila tirulila la

“Daaman” (1951) is an obscure movie which had Ajit, Nigar Sultana, Agha,Pran etc in it.
This movie as well as its songs have been forgotten. I have no idea about the movie itself, but I am happy that the audio of songs of this movie are still available. And as is the case with the music of many obscure movies, the music of this movie too is delightful to listen to.
Here is a song from this movie which I first heard only a few hours ago. This song, which begins with what I think are gibberish words “Tirulila tirulila tirulila la” is sung with gusto by Lata. Raja Mehdi Ali Khan has written this song. Music is composed by a music director called K Datta. I am not aware about K Datta and this song is his first composition in this blog- that is how obscure this movie and its music is.
Though only the audio of this song is available, I guess that this song must have been picturised on Nigar Sultana as a club song.
Song-Tirulila Tirulila tirulila la(Daaman) (1951) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Raja Mehdi Ali Khan, MD-K Datta
Lyrics
ho ho ho ho ho
ho ho ho ho

tirulila tirulila tirulila la
gaaye Lata

gaaye Lata gaa
do me fa so la ti so
pa dha ma pa
haule haule re
naina tumhaare bholey bholey
dil mein lagaaye sholey sholey
chhotaa sa ye dil boley boley
mere sanam teri qasam
mere hriday ki naiyaa doley doley re
tirulila tirulila tirulila la
gaaye Lata
gaaye Lata
gaaye Lata gaa
do me fa so la ti so
pa dha ma pa
haule haule re
mere geet preet ke maare
tere dil ko jeet ke haare
mere geet preet ke maare
tere dil ko jeet ke haare
kiya patpata
mujhe kyaa kiyaa
kaahe naina mere tumpe doley re
naina tumhaare bholey bholey
dil mein lagaaye sholey sholey
chhotaa sa ye dil boley boley
mere sanam teri qasam
mere hriday ki naiyaa doley doley re
tirulila tirulila tirulila la
gaaye Lata
gaaye Lata
gaaye Lata gaa
do me fa so la ti so
pa dha ma pa
haule haule re
tera ishq husn ko choomey
teri laadli ka dil jhoomey
tera ishq husn ko choomey
teri laadli ka dil jhoomey
mazaa aa rahaa
nashaa chhaa rahaa
jiyaa jhooley khushi ke hindoley re
naina tumhaare bholey bholey
dil mein lagaaye sholey sholey
chhotaa sa ye dil boley boley
mere sanam teri qasam
mere hriday ki naiyaa doley doley re
tirulila tirulila tirulila la
gaaye Lata
gaaye Lata
gaaye Lata gaa
do me fa so la ti so
pa dha ma pa
haule haule re

Atul ji,
What a find; I have never heard this song before, and it is just so good. 🙂
The line with the question marks is actually a variation on the seven notes of sragam in English i.e. do-re-me-fa-so-la-ti.
The variation used in this song is “do-me-fa-so-la-ti-so”
You would surely have heard the English song from the movie “Sound of Music”.
“Doe (DO), a deer, a female deer
Ray (RE), a drop of golden sun
Me (ME), a name I call myself
Far (FA), a long long way to run
Sew (SO), a needle pulling thread
La (LA), a note to follow sew
Tea (TI), a drink with jam and bread
That brings us back to DO oh – oh oh”
(Gulzar created a similar sounding song for Parichay (1972), – “Saare ke saare gama ko le kar gaate chale”.)
🙂

Beautiful song by Lata.First i had listened this on Radio Ceylon in early sixties.Words & voice mingle with music such that you are overwhelmed.
Certainly it is collector’s item.
Thanks for the upload.

Music Director K.Datta’s name was Datta Korgaonkar. He was active in the 40s and 50s.
Some of his movies were Rangmahal,Rishta,Daaman etc.One song from Daaman was ‘Chakori ka chandase pyar’,which was not only very popular but also declared by Lata as one of her Favourite songs.
K.Datta helped Lata quite a lot in her early career when she needed money for the family badly.
K.Datta gave music to many Marathi movies, under his real name Datta Korgaonkar.
