Kal ki na karo baat

Posted on: April 4, 2011

Seeing that India has won the cricket world cup 2011, I, like millions of my countryman, am walking on cloud nine at the moment. The hangover will take a while to go away. The fact that the match was played on saturday and the next day was sunday certainly helped a lot. Some hangover is still there even today on monday.

Considering that we in this blog love to live in the past- viz on the days when the parents/grandparents of present day Hindi movie actors were into acting (viz the parents of Abhishek Bachchan,Eesha Deol,Hrithik Roshan and many others), here is a party song of the kind that the previous generation of actors figured in. The movie is called “Jungle Mein Mangal” (1972). This song has Kiran Kumar (son of Jeewan) lip syncing in Kishore Kumar’s voice, and many other familar looking actors during their earlier days in Hindi movies.

Neeraj and Hasrat Jaipuri were the lyricists in this movie (who wrote which songs in not known) and Shankar Jaikishan composed the music.

It is a lovely song that I heard for the first time just a few hours ago.

Song-Kal ki na karo baat (Jungle Mein Mangal) (1972) Singer-Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Neeraj, MD-Shankar Jaikishan

Lyrics

kal ki na karo baat
arre baat karo aaj ki

kal ki na karo baat
baat karo aaj ki
kal ki na karo baat
baat karo aaj ki
ye zindagi to jhoom ke gaane ke liye hai
gaane ke liye hai
kal ki na karo baat
baat karo aaj ki
ye zindagi to jhoom ke gaane ke liye hai
gaane ke liye hai

jeewan ke ye din chaar
bade pyaar se guzre
iqraar se guzre
kabhi taqraar se guzre
jeewan ke ye din chaar
bade pyaar se guzre
iqraar se guzre
kabhi taqraar se guzre
aur inki aag dil mein basaane ke liye hai
basaane ke liye
kal ki na karo baat
baat karo aaj ki
ye zindagi to jhoom ke gaane ke liye hai
gaane ke liye hai

is raat ki subah na ho
ye apni duaa hai
chhaaya huaa har dil par
muhabbat ka nashaa hai
is raat ki subah na ho
ye apni duaa hai
chhaaya huaa har dil par
muhabbat ka nashaa hai
ye raat saari raat jagaane ke liye hai
jagaane ke liye
kal ki na karo baat
baat karo aaj ki
ye zindagi to jhoom ke gaane ke liye hai
gaane ke liye hai
gaane ke liye hai
