Ye din kyaa aaye lage phool hansne

When India won the final of the cricket world cup 2011 on 2nd of april, I was so overwhelmed (like millions others) that I was unable to concentrate on anything, and that included discussing songs on this blog. But I had promised to post happy songs in case India won the final, so I have been doing that today.
I am thankful to Raja for suggesting a few happy songs for the occasion.
Here is a song feel good song from “Chhoti Si Baat” (1975). It is a background song sung by Mukesh. Yogesh is the lyricist and music is composed by Salil Chaudhary.
Picturisation of this song shows Amol Palekar, playing the next door ordinary neighbour kind of a role is someone ordinary people can readily identify with. He is an unsmart fellow (what is called a “Bhondu” in Hindi) who always gets outsmarted by his street smart colleague Asrani. He has great difficulty wooing his female colleague Vidya Sinha as he would like to. Ashok Kumar, playing a wizened avuncular role, teaches Amol Kumar the tricks of conducting himself smartly and with self confidence in the company of others.
After mastering the tricks to the trade, Amol Palekar begins to get the better of Asrani in office and other matters.
This song plays in the background while Amol Palekar’s transformation from a shy and diffident young man to a confident young man takes place.
It is a lovely song, which is nicely picturised. This feel good song is one that one can listen to and watch many a times without feeling bored.
