Ghar ki raani hoon jee

Posted on: May 2, 2011

It is a coincidence that the movies whose songs I am discussing today bear the same name as that of later day movies that I am more familiar with. Thus I discussed a song of “Heer Ranjha” (1948) and then “Sangam” (1954) while most people are more familiar with these movies of later vintage, viz “Heer Ranjha” (1970) and “Sangam” (1964) respectively. Likewise, when one talks of “Abhimaan”, the name of 1973 movie may come to the minds of most, including myself. But there was another movie of the same name that was produced in 1957.

Here is a song from “Abhimaan” (1957). This by now rare song from a forgotten movie is such a delight to listen to. This song sees Geeta Dutt singing joyously about the domestic bliss that a housewife enjoys.

“Ghar ki raani hoon main” -I am the queen of the household. “Jab bartan chheden sargam
main bhooloon apne sab gham”- When the utensils create music, I forget all my misery.

Indeewar is the author of such sweet and cute lyrics of this song. Anil Biswas is the music director.

I am not very competent, when it comes to identifying actresses of those days, so I request the knowledgeable readers to help identify the actress who enacts this song on the screen.

Here is this lovely song from “Abhimaan” (1957) for my readers to enjoy.

sukh mein kabhi abhimaan na aaye
dukh mein dheer na chhoote
sukh mein kabhi abhimaan na aaye

Thanks for this information. I too guessed it to be Chand Usmani (based on the cast) but I am never sure about the actresses of those days. 🙂
