Ho jaane waale raahi ik pal ruk jaanaa

Posted on: May 8, 2011

“Raahi” (1953) was a movie that was based on Mulkraj Anand’s novel “Ek Kali Aur Do Pattiyaan”(Two leaves and a bud). Dev Anand and Nalini Jaiwant were the main lead in this movie.

This movie had some nice songs in it that have been forgotten with time. I have discussed two such songs from this movie in the past. Here is another song from this movie. This song mentions the word “Raahi” in its lyrics so one may call it the title song of this movie.

This movie has two versions. There is one happy faster version of the song and a sad slower version. Both version of the song are solo songs sung by Lata. Both songs are picturised on Nalini Jaiwant and Dev Anand. Prem Dhawan is the lyricist and music is composed by Anil Biswas.

I have provided a link that contains the faster version followed by the slower version in the same link. Then there is another link that contains only the slower sadder version.

I became aware of this song just moment ago, and I liked the song.

Audio – Fast Happy version

Audio – Sad Slow version

Video – Both version (Happy/Sad)

main poori kahaani sunaa loon zaraa
adhooraa hai jo geet gaa loon zaraa

Friends,

Continuing with the messages received from Raju Bhartan ji, he has mentioned a very special information about this song. Raju ji says that in his personal conversations with him, Anil Biswas had once selected this song as his own best composition.

To quote from his message:-
“Anil Biswas told me that his best composition was Lata’s “O jaane waale rahi eik pal ruk jaana” (on Nalini Jaywant in K A Abbas’s “Rahi” — as that 1953 film was spelt).

There is no need to get worked up about Anil Biswas’s choice and say that we could, offhand, name 10 other superior Anil compositons. “O jaane waale rahi” was Anil’s personal selection, so let us just respect it as that.”
