Tum aankhon se door ho

Posted on: June 28, 2011

“Mirza Sahiban” (1947) is a movie that was released in 1947, in the year of Indian independence and partition.

This movie was one of the last occasions where Noorjahaan was seen in an Indian movie before she left for the newly created Pakistan.

“Mirza Sahiban” (1947) as the name suggests, is a Punjabi tragic love story. Trilok Kapoor and Noorjahaan played the title roles in this movie.

This movie is full of some superb songs. I have already discussed as many as four songs from this movie.

Here is a duet from this movie. It is sung by Noorjahaan and G M Durrani and it is picturised on Noorjahaan and Trilok Kapoor. Aziz Kashmiri is the lyricist. The music of this movie was composed by Husnlal Bhagatram as well as their elder brother Pt Amarnath. For the sake of convenience, I would like to attribute the credit for music direction to Husnlal Bhagatram, thoug it would seem that the music composition for this movie was a teamwork of the three brothers. That way, it could well be a movie where music was created by three brothers.

Coming to the song itself, it is a superbly sung song that can move the listeners even today, more than six decades later.

Song-Tum aankhon se door ho (Mirza Sahiban) (1947) Singers-Noorjehaan, G M Durrani, Lyrics- Aziz Kashmiri, MD-Husnlal Bhagatram

tum aankhon se door ho,
huyi neend aankhon se door
mere saathi gham ki chot se
huaa dil kaa sheeshaa choor
saathiyaa, beliyaa, saajnaa,

mujhe shiqwaa hai taqdeer se,
nahin tumse koi gilaa
haay, nahin tumse koi gilaa
mujhe laakar yoon pardes mein
meraa sab kuchh chheen liyaa
meraa sab kuchh chheen liyaa
saathiyaa, beliyaa, saajnaa,

meri aankhon mein aansoo aa base,
hoon roney par majboor
mere zakhm huye pardesiyaa,
aa ris-ris ke naasoor
saathiyaa, beliyaa, saajnaa,

mujhe rogi karke pyaar kaa,
diyaa gham kaa rog lagaa
haay diyaa gham kaa rog lagaa
mere jalte huye chiraagh ko
meri qismat gayi bujhaa
haay, meri qismat gayi bujhaa
saathiyaa, beliyaa, saajnaa,

mujhe dhokhaa diyaa naseeb ne,
nahin meraa koi kusoor
mujhe dhokhaa diyaa naseeb ne,
nahin meraa koi kusoor
saathiyaa, beliyaa, saajnaa

tell me is this the same Trilok kapoor who was a cousin of the kapoor brothers– Raj-Shammi-Shashi and later went on to do character roles in umpteen movies. i think Deshmukhji will be the best to throw light on this

Trilok Kapoor was the younger brother of Prithviraj Kapoor.
