Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Do dukhiyaare panchhi bicchde jaa rahe

Posted on: July 5, 2011

Hindi movies often have background songs in them, which gets played at a critical juncture in the movie. Such songs may get played either at the beginning of the song, end of the song, or at some other important occasion.

Here is a background song from “School Master” (1959). People, who have stayed together for ages are finally going their separate ways. A few of them are departing on a car, while a few others are departing by a tonga, and their paths diverge at an intersection point, with the car going towards the direction indicating Bina 20 miles and the tonga taking the other route indicating Shaspur.

Oh, those were the days when the British System of measurements were still in use in india. This is a movie of 1959, and mile as the unit of measurement was in vogue till early 1970s, when the British System of measurements were finally replaced by the metric system of measurements.

Then trains are shown indicating that the members of the erstwhle joint family are getting further separated from each other, and this is an irreversible process.

A poignant situation like this calls for an appropriate background song in an appropriate dard bhari aawaaz. And Pradeep fits the bill perfectly for this occasion. A song, sung by Pradeep, and written by him as well, begins and it sums up the poignancy of the situation perfectly. Vasant Desai’s music serves as a perfect accompaniment for the song.

So , here is this wonderful rare gem from “School Master” (1959) which I discovered only just now.

Song-Do dukhiyaare panchhi bicchde jaa rahe (School Master) (1959) Singer-Pradeep, Lyrics-Pradeep, MD-Vasant Desai

Lyrics

aaj suno ham geet vida ka gaa rahe
do dukhiyaare panchhi bichhde jaa rahe
aaa aaa aaa aaa
bahut dinon ke saathhi haay judaa hotey
aa aa aa
gumsun aankhdiyon mein aansoon aa rahe
aa aa aa aa aa
aa aa aa
koi mat poochho kaun hain ye
kyon rote hain
aa aa
is jag mein aise bhi abhaage hote hain
aa aa aa
lut gaye phir bhi dil ka dard chhipaa rahe
do dukhiyaare panchhi bichhde jaa rahe
aaj suno ham geet vida ka gaa rahe
do dukhiyaare panchhi bichhde jaa rahe
