Ye to kaho kaun ho tum

Posted on: July 12, 2011

12 july is the death anniversary of Rajendra Kumar (DOB-20 july 1929-DOD 12 july 1999). Apart from moviegoers of his time, he was a delight to the movie makers too, because his movies tended to be box office hits. In fact, he was nicknamed Jubilee Kumar for this Midas touch.

On the occasion of the death anniversary of Rajendra Kumar, this blog offers its tribute to him. His movies are rich sources of great songs. Here is an awesome song that I had never heard before. This song is a duet from “Akeli Mat Jaiyyo” (1963). It is sung by Rafi and Lata and it is picturised on Rajendra Kumar and Meena Kumari.

The lyrics by Majrooh Sultanpuri are delightful, and the music of Madan Mohan makes listening to this song a memorable experience. I heard this song for the first time today, and I loved it.

Song-Ye to kaho kaun ho tum (Akeli Mat Jaiyo) (1963) Singers-Rafi, Lata, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-Madan Mohan

Lyrics

laralaralarala
laralaralarala
lalalalala
lalalalala
hmm hmm hmm hmm
hmm hmmm hmm hmm

ye to kaho
kaun ho tum
meri bahaar tumhi to nahin
ye to kaho
kaun ho tum
meri bahaar tumhi to nahin
pahle pahal thahra hai dil
dil ka qaraar tumhi to nahin
yes my darling
yes my darling
yes my darling
ho ho

jaane kahaan se aayaa raahi anokha
mere jahaan mein jaise khushboo ka jhonka
jaane kahaan se aayaa raahi anokha
mere jahaan mein jaise khushboo ka jhonka
khushboo ka jhonka bankar aayaa raahi anokha
bhanwre ki gun phoolon ki hansi
rut ka nikhaar tumhi to nahin
meri bahaar tumhi to nahin
yes my darling
yes my darling
yes my darling
ho ho ho

kehne ko aayaa koi
mehmaan banke
dil mein samaayaa jaaye
armaan ban ke
kehne ko aayaa koi
mehmaan banke
dil mein samaayaa jaaye
armaan ban ke
mehmaan banke aaye sama gaye armaan banke
bas hi gaya dil mein koi
kaho dildaar tumhi to nahin
meri bahaar tumhi to nahin
yes my darling
yes my darling
yes my darling
ho ho ho

door khadaa thha kahin
koi albela
paas jo aayaa
meri zulfon se khelaa
door khadaa thha kahin
koi albela
paas jo aayaa
meri zulfon se khelaa
zulfon se khelaa paas jo aayaa koi albela
sapnon mein jo milta rahaa
mera wo pyaar tumhi to nahin
ye to kaho
ho ho
kaun ho tum
he he
meri bahaar tumhi to nahin
aa haa
pahle pahal thahra hai dil
dil ka qaraar tumhi to nahin
yes my darling
hmm hmm hmm
yes my darling
hmm hmm hmm
yes my darling
ho ho

Forgotten gem. Finally this made it to the Atul list. Requested four months back (post 652 – “Readers farmaishes”).

I am no Jublee Kumar fan, but songs in his movie – “Kya baat kya baat”. This movie also contains nice songs like title song “Akeli mat jaiyyo”, Asha number – “thodi derr ke liye mere ho jao”, Lata – “Wo jo milte the kabhi humse deewano ki tarah”, Asha/Rafi – “rasten main do anjaane”, and Mukesh – “chal chal chal mere dil”.

I picked up this movie not so long ago because of the classic song “wo jo milte the kabhi”. And though Rajendra Kumar is not my favourite, Meena Kumari was a big attraction for me to watch the movie.

I must say I was quite disappointed at the movie. Somewhere midway I lost complete interest, it became way too confusing for me and soon I was just waiting for it to end.

The songs are the saving grace though. Like you say, this is a delightful song.

Yes, I remember you especially telling me that this movie was horrible to watch.
