Aise to na dekho ke hamko nashaa ho jaaye

Posted on: July 26, 2011

While listening to this song, I could not but help feel that I had already discussed this song in the past. I checked and re checked, but I found that no, this song has not been discussed earlier. Yes, I had discussed another song with almost similar first line, and written by the same lyricist and composed in the same year !

The song that I have already discussed is Aise to na dekho ke beham jaaye ham(Bheegi Raat) , whereas the song under discussion is Aise to na dekho ke ham ko nasha ho jaaye (Teen Deviyaan). 😀

Majrooh is the lyricist in both the songs and Rafi has sung both these songs ! Only the music directors are different. “Bheegi Raat ” has music by Roshan, whereas “Teen Deviyaan” has music by S D Burman.

The similarity in lyrics and singer apart, this “Teen Deviyaan” song is a fantastic song to listen to. It has to be among the most romantic songs created in Hindi movies.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by nahm and that is how I realised that this song was yet yet discussed in the blog.

Song-Aise to na dekho ke ham ko nasha ho jaaye (Teen Deviyaan) (1965) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-S D Burman

Lyrics

Aise to na dekho ke ham ko nasha ho jaaye
aise to na dekho ke ham ko nasha ho jaaye
khoobsoorat si koi hamse khata ho jaaye
khoobsoorat si koi hamse khata ho jaaye
aise to na dekho

tum hamen roko
phir bhi ham na ruken
tum kaho kaafir
phir bhi aise jhuken
qadam-e-naaz pe ek sajda ada ho jaaye
aise to na dekho ke ham ko nasha ho jaaye
khoobsoorat si koi hamse khata ho jaaye
aise to na dekho

yoon na ho aankhen rahen kaajal ghole
badh ke bekhudi haseen gesu khole
khul ke bhi zulfen siyaah kaali balaa ho jaaye
aise to na dekho ke ham ko nasha ho jaaye
khoobsoorat si koi hamse khata ho jaaye
aise to na dekho

ham to masti mein jaane kya kya kahen
lab-e-naazuk se aisa na ho tumhen
beqaraari ka gilaa hamse siwa ho jaaye
aise to na dekho ke ham ko nasha ho jaaye
khoobsoorat si koi hamse khata ho jaaye
aise to na dekho

This song always takes me to my courtship days, LOL!

Majrooh Saheb has put so much sweetness in his lyrics, and Burmanda has done wonders. Dev Saab is no less stunning in the song!

Another Rafi saab gem. There are some out there who try to project a story that SD Burman da preferred Kishore to Rafi. That’s rubbish! Maybe it is triggered by Kishore’s comments about Burman da, that he treated him like his own son, that he encouraged and supported him a lot. The fact is that SD Burman had a huge amount of respect for Rafi saab. They had a glorious partnership and had loads of hits together. When SD Burman was given accolade after accolade for Guide, he was magnanimous in his praise for Rafi saab, saying he deserved most of the credit (Rafi saab has 3 superhit songs in Guide). Kaala Pani, Kaala Bazar, Tere Ghar Ke Saamne, Bambai Ka Babu and many more movies have hit songs of this pair.

SD Burman’s sense of music and use of voice was unparalleled. He picked Kishore for some songs and Rafi saab for others, depending on the situation. In Teen Deviyan itself, he used Kishore for “khwab ho tum ya koi haqeeqat” and for “yaar meri tum bhi ho ghazab” but Rafi saab for “aise to na dekho”. Similarly he used Kishore for “gaata rahe mera dil”. Again, in Nau Do Gyarah, he used Kishore for “hum hain rahi pyar ke” and “aankhon mein kya ji” but used Rafi saab for “aaja panchhi akela hai” (a lovely, lovely duet).

Somebody (maybe AK on his blog) needs to analyse SD Burman’s music. Could be a fascinating analysis.

Yes, it will be a good topic for analysis.

Atul, I just wanted to listen to “aaja panchhi akela hai” (Nau Do Gyarah) on your blog and was very surprised to find it’s not been posted yet.

So my request: could you please please post this at the earliest? SD Burman da has composed several delightful duets of Rafi-Asha (e.g Bambai Ka Babu) but this one from Nau Do Gyarah is really really sweet.
