Pyaas liye manwaa hamaaraa ye tarse

Posted on: July 28, 2011

This is that kind of a song that I heard in my younger days without being aware of its details, and then forgot all about it.

I heard this song again after nearly four decades, when the lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

Listening to this song immediately rang bells in my mind. oh, this was quite a popular song of those days, that I may have heard a lot on radio and on loudspeakers, before this song ran its course and it was forgotten by most music lovers.

when I look at the details of this song, I realise that it is an archtypical small budget Rajshree Productions kind of a movie in which the heroine plays a traditional Bhartiya naari and wins over her elders, servants etc and finally manages to win over the hero too.

And what is the best time and tested way to win over the elders ? Singing a bhajan in a temple,of course ! And that is precisely what Naajima proceeds to do in this song. Elders like Durga Khote, Bipin Gupta etc look on, suitably impressed.

Here is this nice bhajan from this movie called “Mere Bhaiyya” (1972). Lata is the singer. Yogesh is the lyricist and music is composed by Salil Chaudhary.

I have provided both the audi as well as the video link of this song. The audio link is slightly longer.

It is a nice song to listen to And I am happy to be able to listen to this song again after nearly four decades.

Song-Pyaas liye manwa hamaara ye tarse (Mere Bhaiyya) (1972) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Yogesh, MD-Sali Chaudhary

Lyrics (Provided by Prakashchandra)

pyaas liye manwaa hamaara ye tarse
ek boond teri daya ki jo barse
ban jaaye paavan ye jeevan saaraa
jaise gangaa ki ho dhaaraa
jaise gangaa ki dhaaraa
pyaas liye manwaa hamaara ye tarse
ek boond teri daya ki jo barse
ban jaaye paavan ye jeevan saaraa
jaise gangaa ki ho dhaaraa
jaise gangaa ki dhaaraa
pyaas liye manwaa hamaara ye tarse

jaane anjaane karte rahe bhool ham
chhoone aaye hain charnon ki ab dhool ham
jaane anjaane karte rahe bhool ham
chhoone aaye hain charnon ki ab dhool ham
teri karuna mili, hai bure ya bhale
teri bagiya ke phir bhi to hain phool ham
pyaas liye manwaa hamaara ye tarse
ek boond teri daya ki jo barse
ban jaaye paawan ye jeewan saaraa
jaise gangaa ki ho dhaaraa
jaise gangaa ki dhaaraa
pyaas liye manwaa hamaara ye tarse

tumse hai bas hamaari yehi praarthna
leke aaye hain ham to yehi kaamnaa
tumse hai bas hamaari yehi praarthna
leke aaye hain ham to yehi kaamnaa
humko vardaan do, aisa tum gyaan do
rahe sabke liye prem ki bhaawnaa
pyaas liye manwaa hamaara ye tarse
ek boond teri daya ki jo barse
ban jaaye paawan ye jeewan saaraa
jaise gangaa ki ho dhaaraa
jaise gangaa ki dhaara
pyaas liye manwaa hamaara ye tarse
ek boond teri daya ki jo barse
ban jaaye paawan ye jeewan saaraa
jaise gangaa ki ho dhaaraa
jaise gangaa ki dhaara
pyaas liye manwaa hamaara ye tarse

I think vijay arora played the role of wayward brother for naazima in this movie.

Atul ji,

MERE BHAIYA(1972),a Rajashri Production of Tarachand Barjatya, was directed by Satyen Bose, who made this movie a tear jerker and Rajashri released the film just before the Raksha Bandhan day in 1972.Still it was an average grosser.
The story ,in short,is Laxmi(Nazima)looks after SubhashSharma, her motherless brother and saves him from father’s wrath always.Father has objections about Subhash’s friendship with Ranga a bad character. As expected,Subhash gets spoiled and lands in Jail.
Laxmi pawns her wedding jewellery to get him out. This opens his eyes and he saves his sister’s marriage from breaking.
Similarly, this film must have opened Rajashri’s eyes and later they opted for better cast in the lead to create their own place in the Sun.
Prakashchandra ji has rightly commented about the actors.

It was Suresh Chatwal who is Durga khote`s song in the movie who got smittedn by Naazima`s bhajan song.

The director of the movie used to direct such small yet message driven movies like DOSTI(1964),JEEVAN MRITHYU,JAGRUTHI(1954),AANSOO BAN GAYE PHOOL(1969)MASSOM (1960)
and other famous movies like chalthi ka naam gaadi, raat aur din, aasraa, mere laal, wapas etc.

sorry too many typing mistakes in hurry ,
suresh chatwal plays durga khote`s song in the movie. Durga khote in turn get smitten by naazima, who is in search of a prospective daughter in law for her son.
And the movies name should have been MASOOM(1960)

Wow! The moment I saw the title here, I said “hey, I know that one!”.

This is a song that lay way way back in the recesses of my mind but had completely been covered by the sands of time. I think I must have last heard it when the movie was released, so sometime in the early 70s. It is almost 40 years then since I heard it – and yet I recognised it the moment I saw the title.

Even if the movie didn’t do too well, I think this song may have been quite popular in its time. In any case, it takes me back almost 40 years!

Thanks, Atul, for posting this.

Salil Chaudhary used the tune of his Non-filmy bengali song sung by Lata in 1961 :
