Today is India’s independence day. On this occasion, I greet all Indians, wherever they are, a very happy independence day.
On this occasion, here is a very special patriotic song. This song was written by a patriot who actually participated in the freedom struggle and was hanged by Britishers for his role in the Kakori conspiracy.
This poetry , written by Ramprasad Bismil soon became popular among freedom fighters and in fact it acquired cult status.
This song has been used on many occasions. For instance, it has been used in the movie “Shaheed” (1965) as well.
Here is this song from “Shaheed” (1965). Prem Dhawan is the music director and the song is sung by Rafi and Manna Dey with patriotic fervour.

Atul ji,
RAMPRASAD ‘BISMIL’ was born in 1897 at a village in Shahajehanpur district of U.P.in a well to do family.
He studied Hindi,Urdu and English,and was an expert in all 3 languages.He was a staunch patriot and was inflenced tremendously by Arya Samaj Philosophy.He believed in snatching Freedom from the British.
He also idolised Tilak and was instrumental in taking Tilak in a grand procession at Lucnow for the Congress Mahasabha.
He was the main planner and executioner in the famous KAKORI RAIL DACOITY case.On 9-8-1925,a train was looted near Kakori,a small village near Lucknow.The train was looted by 10 armed persons led by Ramprasad.
ALL were caught by the Police with the help of some insiders and Ramprasad and 3 others were sentenced to Death,after 1 year’s proceedings.
He was hanged on 18-12-1927.He sang Vande Mataram before dying.
While waiting for the Gallows,in the Jail,he wrote his Autobiography in just 3 days.
He has written many poems in Hindi and Urdu.
