Badtameez kaho ya kaho jaanwar

Posted on: August 16, 2011

The number of memorable songs picturised on Shammi Kapoor runs into hundreds. Many of these songs have already been discussed in this blog. The remaining Shammi Kapoor songs too will find their way in this blog with time, I am sure.

Shammi Kapoor songs were typically sung by Rafi, and it boggles the mind how one singer can sing so many great songs, each requiring great energy and passion.

And these songs would typically be written by Shailendra/Hasrat Jaipuri, with music by Shankar Jaikishan.

Here is an archtypical Rafi song picturised on Shammi Kapoor. This song is from “Badtameez” (1966) . The picturisation shows Shammi Kapoor wooing his lady love Sadhana in his inimitable trademark style. And his inimitable trademark style consisted of sweeping the lady off his feet by his mannerisms. Well, the movie watchers were swept off their feet, and it is only a matter of time (read towards the end of the song) by which the lady is bound to succumb to the charm of prince charming.

Yes, that is how it was with our “Prince”, call his “Badtameez” or “Jaanwar” or “Junglee”. And we in this blog pay our tributes of this great entertainer who brough sunshines in the lives of so many movie watchers across several decades and across several generations.

Here is this song from “Badtameez” (1966) which is sung by Rafi. Hasrat Jaipuri is the lyricist. Music is composed by Shankar Jaikishan.

Song-Badtameez kaho ya kaho jaanwar (Badtameez) (1966) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Hasrat Jaipuri, MD-Shankar Jaikishan

Lyrics

badtameez kaho yaa kaho jaanwar
meraa dil tere dil pe fidaa ho gayaa
bachaao koi sambhaalo koi
o meri jaan-e-jaan main tabaah ho gayaa
ho lallaa ho lallaa
ho lallaa ho lallaa
badtameez kaho yaa kaho jaanwar
meraa dil tere dil pe fidaa ho gayaa
bachaao koi sambhaalo koi
o meri jaan-e-jaan main tabaah ho gayaa
ho lallaa ho lalaa
ho lallaa ho lalaa

kitne meethhe hain lab tere jaan-e-ghazal
tu buraa bhi kahe to lage hai bhalaa
kitne meethhe hain lab tere jaan-e-ghazal
tu buraa bhi kahe to lage hai bhalaa
inhin andaaz ne ho maar daalaa hamen
naa tumhaari khataa naa hamaari khataa
ho lallaa ho lallaa
ho lallaa ho lallaa
badtameez kaho yaa kaho jaanwar
meraa dil tere dil pe fidaa ho gayaa
bachaao koi sambhaalo koi
o meri jaan-e-jaan main tabaah ho gayaa
ho lallaa ho lallaa
ho lallaa ho lallaa

meri ulfat se nafrat na kar sangdil
dekh iski badaulat ye duniyaa bani
meri ulfat se nafrat na kar sangdil
dekh iski badaulat ye duniyaa bani
ishq ki aag mein jal ke hasti mitaa
phir khabar ho tujhe kyaa hai dillagi
ho lallaa ho lallaa
ho lallaa ho lallaa
badtameez kaho yaa kaho jaanwar
meraa dil tere dil pe fidaa ho gayaa
bachaao koi sambhaalo koi
o meri jaan-e-jaan main tabaah ho gayaa
ho lallaa ho lallaa
ho lallaa ho lallaa

pyaar karnaa koi jurm kab hai sanam
pyaar meraa Khudaa pyaar meraa dharam
pyaar karnaa koi jurm kab hai sanam
pyaar meraa Khudaa pyaar meraa dharam
pyaar maine kiyaa kyaa gunaah kar diyaa
tum ye socho zaraa tumko meri qasam
ho lallaa ho lallaa
ho lallaa ho lallaa
badtameez kaho yaa kaho jaanwar
meraa dil tere dil pe fidaa ho gayaa
bachaao koi sambhaalo koi
o meri jaan-e-jaan main tabaah ho gayaa
ho lallaa ho lallaa
ho lallaa ho lallaa
ho lallaa ho lallaa
ho lallaa ho lallaa
ho lallaa ho lallaa
ho lallaa ho lallaa
ho lallaa ho lallaa
ho lallaa ho lallaa

Atul ji,

Lovely song, and what a performance.

In this film, there is a short lover’s dialogue exchange between Shammi Kapoor and Sadhna, which is almost entirely made up of the names of films of Shammi Kapoor. Very interesting. 🙂

I have seen the picturization for first time just now. Something strange is going on there, because there is a man lying down on the floor, who is out for all counts or dead ? He is certainly not reacting to all this noise/commotion with all those dogs roaming around and fencing too, not to mention rafi singing at the top of his voice. He is just lying on the floor, and no one is bothering to put him to bed at least.

Lovely Shammi number. Sudhir ji, that trivia sounds very interesting. Any chance of getting that dialogue online?
