Aaj gham kal khushi hai yehi zindagi

Posted on: August 19, 2011

I was aware of movies called ” Jawaab” that were released in 1942 and 1970, but it turns out that there was another movie with this title that was released in 1955. This movie, viz. “Jawaab” (1955) had Nasir Khan,Geeta Bali ,,Balraj Sahni ,Johnny Walker, Mukri ,Achala Sachdev, Master Romi ,Tun Tun (Uma Devi) etc. Despite such impressive starcast, this movie apparently ended up as an obscure movie, so obscure in fact that few people seem to be aware of this movie.

Here is a song from this movie. This song is sung by Rafi. Khumar Barabankwi is the lyricist. Nashaad is the music director.

I request our knowledgeable readers to tell us about the identity of the actor who is seen pushing a pushcart in the picturisation.Personally I think that he looks like Balraj Sahni.

It is a nice philosophical song. I heard this song for the first time only a few hours ago, after I received the lyrics of this song from nahm.

Song-Aaj gham kal khushi hai yehi zindagi(Jawaab) (1955) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Khumar Barabankwi, MD-Naashaad

Lyrics(Provided by nahm)

aaj gham kal khushi
hai yehi zindagi
sun le pyaare
aadmi wo jo himmat na haarey
aaj gham kal khushi
hai yehi zindagi
sun le pyaarey
aadmi wo jo himmat na haarey

jo na kaanton se daaman bachaaye
phool ban ke wo hi muskuraaye
phool ban ke wo hi muskuraaye
yoonhi mar mar ke jee
hans hans hans ke jee
gham ke maare
aadmi wo jo himmat na haare
aaj gham kal khushi
hai yehi zindagi
sun le pyaare
aadmi wo jo himmat na haarey

jin gareebon se duniya khafa hai
unko bhagwaan ka aasra hai
unko bhagwaan ka aasra hai
mushqilon se na dar
ho na tu iss qadar besahaare
aadmi wo jo himmat na haarey
aaj gham kal khushi
hai yehi zindagi
sun le pyaare
aadmi wo jo himmat na haarey

Atul ji,
The cartpushing singer on the screen is BALRAJ SAHANI.

dear mr. Atul. The movie EK SAAL, (Ashok Kumar, and Madhubala) has an opening song. Kisike liye ruka hai, kisike liye ruke ga, karna hai jo bhi karle le, yeh waqt dja raha hai. Please mr.Atul, I know my greed for music and songs is neverending, so I request you once again, Your “jadoo”effords, once more. Thank you so much. Roos Ramdin. (please the whole song)

We too are greedy for music and this enables us to learn about songs that we did not know about. I will discuss this song tomorrow.

This Jawaab was directed by Ismail Memon, who, I knew in 1955 and thereabouts, lived a street away from where I grew up in the Mohamedali Road area of then Bombay. Some of his production crew members also lived on his street, and later worked for Mehmood.

I believe Mr. Memon also directed a movie named Roti (among many others) but am not able to get more information on any site.

New Delhi, 23rd August 2011.

Dear Atul Ji,

This is a very famous and popular song I heard several time on Radio Ceylon and also on Vividh Bharti specially in the era of the 1950.

I was not aware of the name of the movie but from your information the movie’s name has been added to my knowledge. Thanks.
Mohan Lal
