Khanke to khanke kyun khanke

I may think that I know a lot about old Hindi movies and their songs, but I often find myself humbled as I find my knowledge to be quite insignificant and inadequate vis a vis the knowledge possessed by the visitors of this blog. Thanks to the invaluable informations provided by the readers through their comments, farmaishes, lyrics, e mails etc, I learn new things almost on a daily basis.
Just a few days back, I had tried to show off my knowledge by stating that Padmini and Vyjyanti Mala were the only leading ladies who acted opposite Raj Kapoor and Shammi Kapoor both. I was quickly informed that there were lots and lots of actresses who had acted opposite both the Kapoor brothers.
Likewise, I was harbouring another illusion for a long time that Shammi Kapoor (post 1957, when he finally found his calling, till 1971, when he stopped acting as hero) had only worked with a handful of music directors, namely O P Nayyar, Usha Khanna, Shankar Jaikishan, Ravi and R D Burman. But then I found the other day that Shammi Kapoor had worked with a music director as obscure as Bipin Babul too.
I have been sent the lyrics of songs from the movie “Wallah Kya Baat Hai” (1962) by Prakashchandra. And now I find some more information about Shammi Kapoor movies. I find that he has worked against Bina Rai ! And now I also know that Shammi Kapoor has also worked with music direction Roshan !
Yes, this movie “Wallah Kyaa Baat Hai” (1962) has Shammi Kapoor and Bina Rai as the lead pair and Roshan as the music director.
Here is a delightful duet song from this movie. The song is sung by Rafi and Asha Bhonsle and it is picturised on Shammi Kapoor, Bina Rai and several other dancers. Prem Dhawan is the lyricist.
If one listens to this song and one has to guess the music director, then one will guess O P Nayyar. Yes, Roshan has compised an O P Nayyarish tune for this song. Yes, music directors those days would often ape the music styles of other music directors.
Here is this lovely song from “Wallah Kya Baat Hai” (1962). I became aware of this song only recently after I received this lyrics from Prakashchandra and by now this song has grown upon me.

Lyrics
Khanke to khanke kyun khanke
jab raat ko chamke taare
meraa kangnaa haaye,
haay re mera kangnaa
arre samjho to samjho yoon samjho
ye ham ko karen ishaare
tera kangnaa haaye,
haay re teraa kangnaa
kangnaa thhaamoon,
paayal bole
aaoon kaun bahaane se
aaoon kaun bahaane se
ae ae
jinko milnaa ho yaaron se
darte nahin zamaane se
darte nahin zamaane se
roke to duniya kyaa roke
o roke to duniya kya roke
jab ham hain pyaar ke maare
teraa kangnaa haaye,
haay re teraa kangnaa
khanke to khanke kyun khanke
Jab raat ko chamke taare
Meraa kangnaa haaye,
haay re mera kangnaa
tiriri taareelaa lillahaa re lilla
tiriri taareelaa oye hoye
tiriri taareelaa lillahaa re lilla
tiriri taareelaa oye hoye
aaye jawaani jab mastaani
roke laaj ke pehre naa
roke laaj ke pehre naa
haaye
ghoonghat ka pat khul khul jaaye
sar pe aanchal thehre naa
sar pe aanchal thehre naa
soche to soche kyaa soche
arre soche tho soche kya soche
jab nain mile matwaare
mera kangnaa haaye
haay re mera kangnaa
arre samjho tho samjho yoon samjho
ye ham ko karein ishaare
tera kangnaa haaye,
haay re teraa kangnaa ha
aa aa
aaa aaa aaaa
ooo oo
oo ooo ooo
pyaar hai dhokha jaane duniya
phir dil dhokhaa khaaye kyun
phir dil dhokhaa khaaye kyun
o ho
tu hi bataa de dekh ke hamko
nazar teri sharmaaye kyun
nazar teri sharmaaye kyun
sarke tho sarke kyon sarke
Arre sarke tho sarke kyun sarke
aanchal tere sar se pyaare
teraa kangnaa haaye,
haayre teraa kangnaa
khanke to khanke kyun khanke
jab raat ko chamke taare
meraa kangnaa haaye,
haayre mera kangnaa
tiriri taareelaa lillahaa re lilla
tiriri taareelaa oye hoye
tiriri taareelaa lillahaa re lilla
tiriri taareelaa oye hoye
tiriri taareelaa lillahaa re lilla
tiriri taareelaa oye hoye
tiriri taareelaa lillahaa re lilla
tiriri taareelaa oye hoye
tiriri taareelaa lillahaa re lilla
tiriri taareelaa oye hoye
tiriri taareelaa lillahaa re lilla
tiriri taareelaa oye hoye

Lovely, enjoyable song with a folk touch. I have heard it before, vaguely remmembered. Good to be reminded, and the picturization is also typical of opn songs.

What a coincidence! I had listened to almost all the songs of this movie on YT last night only. I also felt that the MD of this movie was O P Nayyar until I noticed after listening to 2-3 songs more songs that MD was none other than Roshan. After listening to 5-6 songs of this movie, I get an impression that songs did not have the usual Roshan style.
I guess, Roshan must have succumb to the pressure from Producer or even from Shammi Kapoor to tune the songs in OPN style.
