Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Aajaa ree aa nindiyaa tu aa

Posted on: September 9, 2011

When I saw the lyrics of this song (sent by Prakashchandra), I felt that this song was discussed long back. But despite my thorough checking, I drew a blank. So here was another well known song that had somehow remained undiscussed all these days, while I was under the impression that I had already discussed it.

I have heard this song many a times. In fact, everyone who is into Hindi movie music has heard this song. This song is an iconic lori (lullaby )song, and one of the first lori songs in Hindi movies in fact.

Like most people, I have been hearing this song without being aware of its details. It is only now that I have become clear about the details of this song. This song is from “Do Beegha Zameen”(1953), a critically acclaimed movie directed by Bimal Roy. This song is sung by Lata. It is written by Shailendra. Music is composed by Salil Chaudhary.

The song is picturised on Meena Kumari and Nirupa Roy, with Meena Kumari singing this lori to a small child.

This soft lori is a creation of genius and it has gone on to become a part of Indian household. It is a priceless gem !

Aaa jaa ree aaaa

Salilda ko jo shohrat milni chahiye thi, unke jeete jee,woh unko nahin nahin mila, duniya ki reet hi kuchh ajeeb hai .

I miss salilda very much, I read somewhere that his son is expert in giving background music to Hindi movies these days. I have seen his name in the title card of some recent hindi movie, yes, his name must be sanjoy choudhury.
